2007 WSOP winner Jerry Yang (not the CEO of Yahoo) joined 2006 WSOP winner Jamie Gold and Joe Hachem winner of the 2005 World Series of Poker WSOP becoming the latest player to join the poker hall of fame along with such greats as Doyle Brunson, Amarillo Slim and Stu Ungar.
Following in the footsteps of recent winners Greg Raymer & Chris Moneymaker Gold picked up the richest prize in poker and sporting history winning $12 million for 1st place in 2006. Jerry Yang winning a tidy $8.5m in 2007.

The first World Series of Poker was played in 1970. Organised by Benny Binion to determine who was the best of the top poker players in America and worthy of the title World Champion. Played at Binion's Horseshoe Casino Las Vegas. The first year the top players decided who the world champion was through a vote and gave the honour to Johny Moss. The following year to the present day the title World Champion has been given to the winner of the WSOP $10,000 entry No-Limit Texas Hold-em main event. The following year 1971 Johny Moss beat all the other entrants in the tournament to take the title for a 2nd year - proving himself a true legend of poker.
