damn unlucky - but I would say you made 100% the right play

short stacked your realistically hoping for any pocket pair to steal the blinds with or have a fair chance of winning if called

10 10 or JJ up is a perfectly respectable hand to go all-in with

personally (although other might disagree) I would be happy to play anything 88 or better
maybe even 77 with the expectation of getting called

and also probably if just trying to steal the blinds (and not expecting to get called) ie from tighter / folding players on blinds (not big stacks who can justify a call with anything) I would also go with suited connectors

10 J - JQ - QK - KA

also any suited Ace down to A 10

when your short stacked like that you have to take your best shot before the blinds comit you to the hand regardless - unless of course you are trying to get just into the money and you figure others will break out before you
