Omaha is actually more simple than hold'em when it comes to starting hands. You absolutely have to have lots of power.
Hi/lo
You want A2s A3s
That is the dream start.
I do not like starting a hand that has a pair unless its aces, unless I have two pairs.
Really shouldnt even be doing that unless both of them are high pairs ... only use for them is a fullhouse - and we have all lost to higher houses numerous times.
The way I would like to play (though I have a bad habit of ignoring mysyelf) is to toss anything that doesnt have a strong low draw and at least one suited ace. Who cares what you would have had in hands you are not in, I only care about what I have when I am in a hand - and I want to make sure I can get a nut low, and a nut high before I start a hand.
Hi
To me the same start as Hi/Lo is optimal.
AXs, AXs
I do not care what the "X" card is. Obviously something like AKs, AKs, or AQs, AJs is better - but I am really only interested in that second card being suited with the ace.
Again, the way I would like to play is not to start any hand unless I have at least one ace suited.
In practice I will generally start 6789 or 7899 hands (or better/worse with similiar pattern) ... I also from experiance think that such starts, while they can be gold at times - can also be killers.
For the Hi I really just want an Ace high flush with no pair on the board. Your gold, you won, no split pot.
