Default playing styles - cash & tournament

hi

interesting question and hopefully you'll get plenty of suggestions from the other more experienced members ;-)

but I would say that AFAIKS although the basic tight aggressive approach is broadly speaking a good base for either game ...

cash games have no finite point - they are totally open ended so really you could argue that if you sit there long enough playing basic ABC tight aggressive poker (nothing fancy) then you will win over time - at the higher stakes this will be less effective but its all about grinding out a profit

clever play at lower limits is IMHO more dangerous than just playing pretty close to the book

tournaments have a finite point - once you have bought in, that is dead money, the only goal left is to finish in the money and beat all the other players by whatever means - therefore you need to be far more adaptable and situational play is the name of the game

Personally I'd almost forgotten how much I like playing MTT's and even SNG's over cash games (which is all about the grind) - finding the time is always an issue - and that is another consideration - you can leave a cash game anytime with your money from the table ... in a tournament its dead from the moment you buy-in until you make the money or go out.

hope thats a help - and the start of a good thread - looking forward to GT, Jacks and others getting in on this

cheers scrawnybob
