Default screen names in profiles & invite options

hi

just to add -

on the screen names in profiles ...

I was planning to make this a completely closed system for exactly the reasons of member privacy ...

ie. only the specific member and admin (myself) would be able to view screen name info

so none of that member detail would be visible or searchable by other members, I appreciate some members would like to be able to look at others info but I to came to the same conclusion that this wouldnt be a good idea ... the plan was for members to have the option (not compulsory) to enter their screen names (for only me and them to see) so that I can easily look at results in the league and cross ref to make sure we get all of a players points together ... I'd also like members to have a tick box next to the site screen names so they could (if they wanted) let me know if they signed up to sites via our links

As said earlier I would only be considering a non public setup for this

on Invite only lists

It's worth bearing in mind that the password sharing issue is only on FullTilt, Titan and a bit on PokerStars - the other sites entry numbers are alot lower

Also it isnt just myself not relishing the potentially massively bigger admin task of invite process ... alot of the sites are not prepared to do tournaments this way ... and in fairness those are the sites that have the bigger problem at anyway ... so invite list is NOT an option for them because the sites dont offer that option for us.

Also we have over 500+ members who are valid to play (admittedly the post quality is an issue on a fair number of these) - but given that we have reduced the FullTilt freeroll entries from a peak of 300 down to 200 ...

I think the couple or 3 bad eggs I've tracked down and removed from our membership that one piece of online detective work finding sites that were posting our passwords and then tracking that to specific members ... has made a big difference

Having found those offending members (and removed them) it is worth noting that if the membership were asked to take a guess and point a finger ... they would definately have looked and pointed in the wrong direction (ie. at poor 10+ posting new members) when infact the problem layed with fairly long standing members with sufficent decent posts (somewhere in the 10-35 post region) not to arrouse suspicion

given that taking out 2-3 members has reduced the numbers in FTP games by 50% I think time and effort is better spent tracking down sites / blogs and co-operating with other sites to weed out the odd bad egg who is responsible for say 50 non members crashing the games than to unfairly target poor 10 posters who by and large only want to get the password for themselves rather than make a habit and a concerted effort to stay under the radar but regularly feed out the passwords to their own members / blog readers / network of freeroll password sharers

It goes without saying that any help or leads on password sharing sites etc that any members can give ... will be and has been treated in the absolute of confidence

cheers scrawnybob
