I dont think anyone does this on purpose to win more money. I sometimes do it when I know i have go somewhere else before the tournament ends. When this happens i just try to build a stack like a maniac and then just leave the tournament running when I go to try to cash something. Its better than nothing but I can assure you that the cash you earn using this as a strategy is ridiculously small. You are better off taking your risks to make the big bucks, even if you have to be eliminated several times with nothing. Its just more profitable in the long run.
