On an 8 person table- Playable hands are:
The highest up pair or 2 down live over - or in position a mid live pair w/ a live over is okay.
Also 3 to a straight or 3 to a flush where most of your outs are live, having down one out on a flush draw is actually fine on an 8 handed table, being down 2 see another card in position only.

Most Stud games don’t have blinds and most tournament structure allow for some patience even in the later stages. If your mega low stacked then just gamble with any over pair (lot can happen in 4 cards) but it takes a while in most stud tournaments to get to the point of desperation.
