Recently I downloaded the Full Tilt and PokerStars programs and have been playing for play chips for about two months now. Within the past week I have turned to playing free-roll games on both. For me, it’s a good way to pass the time as I’m a single 34 yr old guy living in a small town where the dating opportunities are non existent, and the high price of gasoline is making regular trips to the nearest city, an hour away, a little expensive.

So far I have played the regular $100 dollar free-rolls on Full Tilt that are open to everyone and some of the other poker player websites that offer free-roll tournies. I have also played the daily free-rolls on PokerStars to try to get into the Week 2 tournament. Overall I’ve been tending to place in the 1200 out of 2700 range on Full Tilt, a lot of maniacs there so I’m going to focus now on tightening my play a lot and playing very aggressively on pocket pairs and face cards.

I had my best results to date on the daily free roll on Poker Stars last night. I placed 50th out of 12,000 after only playing for four days and I gained an entry to the Saturday Week 2 tournament. I played on average about 15% of the total hands that were dealt to me. I probably should have played slightly more, but the ones I did play were pretty decisive, and one in particular I will share with you was definitely a bad beat moment for my opponent.

I had pocket 10’s, I was in position, and I was in the mid-range of all the players at the table in terms of a chip count, about eighty thousand or so. In the future I will try to record what I think is a defining moment in terms of the game more accurately.
I raised quite a bit pre-flop hoping to scare a lot of people away as the blinds at this point were quite high. Only one person remained, and re-raised me. Without hesitating, I pushed all in, I was either going to do really well or bust out, as the hands I had been dealt were starting to go cold. My opponent pushes all in as well.
He has pocket Kings…ugh…game over I’m thinking as I’m praying for a 10 to come up on the flop.

On the flop: K(d), 6(s), 3(h)
So much for my prayer for trips

The turn comes…a 10 comes up…wow wee I think to myself, since the odds of a 4th ten are pretty remote.

The river comes…another 10 comes up…I now have four of a kind to my opponents trip Kings. What a bad beat moment he is having I imagine. The win brings my chip count to over 160, 000 which then gives me enough to qualify for the Week 2 tournament for a prize pool of around $2000.00.

Not bad for having only played free-rolls a grand total of four days, and a testament to a game never being truly over until that river card is turned over.
More to come here soon…
