lol not a total waste of time, but the winnings are pretty meager. I quit playing the fulltilt freerolls after my AA got beat 12 or 13 times in a row. i would just move all in preflop no matter what just to see what would happen, no matter what called me it won.

I certainly don't think beginning players should discount these large field freerolls as there is much to be gained as the previous poster said. I've played many of them myself.This is what I got from them:
Practice: against varying types of player, at varying stages of a tournament
Money: you'll get some funds to start a bankroll.
Sense of achievement: beating over 1000+ players certainly boosts the confidence.
Stamina: you'll need this if you're going be any way successful.
When you've touched all 4 of these though I think you certainly need to consider moving on unless your game is purely recreational.
