bad 5x BB call preflop with J 10
hi
I have to say that IMHO you calling a 5x BB raise (made from the BB) with only J 10 is ...
a bad call
J 10 is a very marginal hand preflop against any kind of raise ... generally any kind of 2+ xBB raise suggests some strength (even with 22 they would be ahead of you)
so I think you made the big mistake not folding 10 J in the first place
your pot odds are terrible ... holding KK, QQ, JJ, 10 10 I would call it but I would be very wary of the flop and what it brings
with any pair lower I would be very inclinded to fold
with mixed 10 or higher hand - I would insta fold 90% ... it simply isnt worth it
You need to ask yourself just what kind of flop would make you feel comfortable with your hand against a player who has shown such preflop aggression in early position ?
If he was stealing ... let him steal the blinds and whatever other small bets there were ... sometimes it is best to leave a hand and let them get away with a total bluff or a semi bluff
in this hand your not the aggressor ... you are the hunted
OK on odds etc seeing the flop you are ahead but not by as much as you'd think ... and a key factor is that he has shown preflop aggression from early postion so a 10 J suited flop would be giving him a straight and a flush draw with AK (very probable hand) or with QK open ended too
really analysing the hand in terms of post flop odds and bad beat factor looses sight of the important thing about this hand ...
ie. It was a very loose call of a sizable preflop raise - I'm not sure you should have been in the hand in the first place
not meant to be harsh - but if the above doesnt make sense then I urge you to read alot more ... you'll thank me in the long run ;-)
