Freeroll rule number 1 - expect the unexpected..
I would have played the hand very differently.
Firstly, I would have raised his initial bet. That is an alarm bell call to him to say you have a monster hand. It is then down to him. If he calls then you know hes got something playable. You can then tread carefully.
Secondly, after the flop I would have raised at most the size of the pot. With his hand he could do nothing but call. His 600 bet was merely a tester to see if you had hit. You raised him all in which suggested you were trying to steal as opposed to having something.
Then once the spades start turning over I would automatically be cautious and ready to lay it down.
By the river if this pattern continued there were three spades on the board PANIC... Hes been flat calling all the way so with you hes clearly playing for draws. Time for you to bale out.
The thing is you committed your entire stack too early with no way out. If you'd raised the pot you;d still have chips and a chance to get out...
