Site Move Feedback - Broken Links Reporting ONLY

hi all

this is just a little advanced warning that hopefully we will be moving the site platform over to the new one this weekend - Sat 8th / Sun 9th Jan

Therefore this will be a bit stressful weekend for me but hopefully seemless for members

However I could really use some help from our keen and active members ...

If you have time to go over the site (non forum as well) looking for any broken links or if you find some accidently as part of normal browsing etc that would be great

basically ALL the non forum pages are now renamed and will be different and not end in .php

this means there are re-directs in place to make sure anyone typing in or using old page names will be re-directed to the new correct page

I will be looking for ones that dont work but more eyes the better

I specifically need people to PM ME with any info (and page urls) or post in this thread (posts will be deleted once sorted) any of the following ...

a) broken links on pages not going anywhere / 404 errors

b) wrong redirects where an old page doesnt go to the new version but somewhere else

c) links in forum that dont link correctly to the new non forum pages (eg. reviews)

I will be leaving in some of the old url links to make sure that they are correctly re-directing on a permanent basis and then gradually changing links manually once I know the permanent re-directs are all working

any help on finding problem links etc would be great

While at some point I would be happy to have feedback on the minimal changes to the look of the site or out of date into etc - please DONT PM me with them now

a) some of the code for change of design has been temporarily disabled - so the updated site doesnt completely look like it will anyway

b) I will have alot more important things to deal with than colours or layout etc at the moment

c) I am aware that I havent updated most of the review pages / top 10 list etc etc etc ... yet

d) I absolutely do NOT want tonnes of feedback on things needing updating / not looking "nice" or not looking different enough or similar enough or suggestions of things I could / should add or have done already etc ;-)

for the moment I am only interested in the mechanics of the site working correctly and getting through the upheaval of moving a complicated site as painlessly as possible with as little search engine problems as possible

I can and will sort out the bells and whistles + updating reviews etc soon after and I will post up a thread for wider feedback etc once this first part of the final move is sorted

on the non forum pages the images are not showing and a password box comes up, I'm using Google Chrome. The password box comes up when the images are at this address

thanks - the image files are being moved - the other site was our testing site where everything had been being build all these months

the images should get moved and then the login box will go

thats easy to answer - basically at the moment as a tempory thing the nav bar showing at top of the forum is an older version of the new nav bar and shouldnt be there - it should match the nav bar on the non forum part of the site (see homepage) which is the correct new one

but I dont think thats what you mean ...

if you mean the links in the forum that go to the non forum pages being "too many to list" ...

that is exactly why I wanted members to PM me or post links to those posts in the forum so I can manually update them ... IF they are actually broken and not redirecting

I know there is potentially too many to list ... IF they ARE broken

AFAIKS the redirects are working fine ...

eg. 4kingpoker.com/forum/cake-poker-forum/14450-cake-poker-now-offers-game-war.html#post89419

has an old link in it to our cake review ... using the url

4kingpoker.com/cake_poker_bonus_review.php

however when you click that link it automatically redriects to the new review page ...

which is this 4kingpoker.com/review/cake-poker/

that is exactly what it is suposed to do ... that is totally fine and not a problem


however if some are not working or have been missed that is exactly why I want members to help me out when they are browsing and spot something amiss ... or even better have a look for them on purpose if they have a spare 10 mins or something

however I HOPE we have got all the redirects correct from the old pages the links to non forum pages posted in the forum should still redirect to the new urls ... if they dont I need to know ... these are the missed or broken links I need to know about most

have you actually found "to many to list" links that dont link that are broken links in the forum that arent redirecting to the new pages ????

if so at least post or PM me a couple of examples so I can see where / if things are not working as we've planned

the problem links / broken links are where one of the old links does NOT go through a re-direct to arrive at the new page url ... those IF any are the ones I really really need to know about ...

NOT ones that have the old url but when clicked actually redirect correctly

so then I can make sure a re-direct is written in so links are not broken - hope this clarification helps

thanks for the heads up on the nav bars being different in the forum / rest of site

just an update we have got the correct version of the nav bar running across the whole site now including all the forum pages so that should sort out a couple of things

On the Home page under the Poker Strategy heading, the bottom link "The Gap Concept in Poker" goes to the main strategy page and not to the Gap Concept page.
