OK so for a long time now I have tried to make allowances for our non English speaking members - as I dont want to exclude any poker players who are prepared to follow our rules
but this has either led to me trying to be relaxed about post quality by non English members or deleting posts which are too bad which seems a bit unfair on our non English members ...
who in fairness for the most part have maked a terrific effort to post 10+ posts in a language which is not natural to them - thanks to them for making the effort
and to those that I have deleted - sorry it's a tough job and a line has to be drawn somewhere
anyway
a proposal and a question
IF ... I put up two sections (one in poker & one in general chat) marked "Non English Poker" & "Non English General Chat" ...
a) would this help alot of people to be able to post in a few more languages ?
b) of our active members & those who regularly report posts ... do we have anyone who can read the foreign language posts to check for spammy / bonus type posts etc ?
If we have any bi-lingual members if you could PM me that would be great
I'm happy to organise some more forum sections but I need to know that I can monitor them for quality and for spammy promotions stuff efficiently - this would just involve members with the ability to spot problem posts to hit the "report post" icon
cheers scrawnybob

As a non-english user, I must say 4kingpoker is easily spotted as a non-EN friendly forum, mainly due to a euro-friendly league and also because your multiple references on that concern. Althought it's an interesting ideia, but not sure if it would work enough to justify it.
a) it would of course, they now have a place to post. But I don't think it's worth all the work IMHO, in a sense that:
- those who come here already have a decent background in english and manage it well
- usually we have our country foruns for posting and "native" chat. English foruns are a complement and a must for non-en players who take poker seriously.
- Unless it would have sub-threads for each major languages, in short time it would become a confusing mix salad of crazy characters, not sure if the admin "ROI" justifies it.
b) I can help you with spam moderation too. But for quality posts it requires more time...
What I suggest as an alternative to my a) answer is a thread where non-en users could ask for help in translating their articles and posts. You could have a list of voluntary members, so you would sort of mediate things.
i don't see where the language barrier is a big enough problem to justify a "special" section for non english members....but who am i to say...i speak english....it mabye a problem for the non english people to read our english posts...but i don't know....need input from our non english speaking members on this matter

Anyway, I'm here to help and aplause
Congratulations dak, exactly my thoughts. Bob I could help you with german and french but I still do not think that this would bring the forum further on. I personally think that English is a must if you want to play international tournaments.
Further on I believe it only would open doors to the pw sharers as those thread would be much less controllable and we already fight against this problem...
So I would propose to not change the forum as it is already very good.
I feel if you done that there would be a 'Them' and 'Us'.They wouldn't post in the main threads but keep to there own.
If they want to be part of this community then most foreigners who join do have a good grasp of English so I don't see it necessary for seperate sections.
And a lot of them do have better English than some of us.
thanks for the feedback - all makes sense and good arguments for not having separate sections
it probably would be a hammer to crack a nut - most of the non English posters do make a great effort to post (its just a shame that I end up having to delete a few as they fall short)
but thats for the input - makes alot of sense
maybe babelfish would help non English speaking members do a rough and ready translation for posts where they know what they want to say
cheers scrawnybob
