Default I have an idea

Because we get lots of people signing up on Wednesday/Thursday and spamming for the password for the weeks games why not say they have to be an active member for a week before getting them.
And if they are found in our games the first week they get banned.

I will not be playing any games this week as the password has been leaked by a member here.

Default password control suggestions

hi polar

cheers for the suggestion

the biggest problem with everyones suggestions (and mine too) is that the people we are trying to get through to ... ie. new (and old members) who dont read and follow our rules ...

are unfortunately equally unlikely to read anymore rules / updates or things like needing to be a member for a week etc

that's really the root of the problem ...

the good members are great members and read an follow the rules, as do a good deal of the new members (everyone was one once)

the vast majority of the new members who just want the passwords see the posting requirement and dont bother to post ... that is a shame (but better than posting stuff that needs to be deleted) ... some then gradually post (which is great) but the majority decide its not worth the effort to post (even junk)

the new members who post junk ... will continue to post junk (unfortunately last week members will have seen a bit more of the problem iceberg than usual, as a result of me not being able to edit, PM and manage this live ... but without meaning to do these people down ... they are hard of reading and that wont change however much we post rules everywhere or change rules ... that approach only works on new members who are already making the effort to read the rules and act accordingly

the good new members dont need to be restricted from making decent last minute posts and then PMing me requesting the password (I will try to deal with them where I can but this is not at all guaranteed)

We wont IMHO from experience ever get through to the problem posters before they start posting junk and becoming a problem

hope this makes some sense ... on the up side I do thing that having the Full Tilt and PokerStars games as buy-in only will do several things ...

a) reduce the number of potentially bad / non posting members joining just for passwords

b) reduce the leaking of FT & PS passwords as they wont be freerolls

c) improve the games for members (with a smaller, but hopefully growing field) and a bigger prize pool for players

my other plans for the other leagues should also make things more managable and better for members too (I hope) - with a tighter choice of hosts at US Open and
Non US leagues (we will be increasing the number of games but at 3 hosts not 4) we should also be able to get the rooms to "sort out" non members crashing the games a bit more effectively.

One thing I will be looking at doing is removing the "late posters PM me for password" info from the rules section - this way it's more likely the crud posters will figure they wont get the password from me and be less inclined to make poor posts at the last minute

(also the new Tuesday slots for the freerolls in the leagues is not ideal for me to send out password last minute (it's the only other day I can do in the week) so I think this will increase the number of new members joining for freeroll passwords (but not posting) and this will then give them time to get to know us and how we work a bit better before jumping in thinking they can get what they want with little effort.

cheers scrawnybob
