Rounders Team - Discussions

It's interesting how all of this is in the Rounders thread. We have worked hard to be first in this competition. We may not win, but this is the closest we've ever been and I'm proud of us. I thought the whole point of having teams was to work to get to the top. Now that we have, everything is going to change. If we are going to redo all the teams, then it should be done after every season. That way no team will be penalized for winning. And I agree with Villa, the names should be changed so no one feels like they are being left out. Do we really want to go through all this every time? If so, we need more time between seasons.

Okay here's an idea. Bob can start a thread for anyone wanting to be in a team to post their name. Then he can draw names from a hat and assign each to a team. Start with 5 members each. As the season progresses and more people want to join, they can be added to the existing teams.

As for some teams having more people show up- the only way to help this is to say only so many people from each team can play. Having headed up teams before, there is no way to guarantee that your team will all show up. If a team wins because most of their members play the game, that's just the way it is.

If the goal is to get more people in the games, maybe a team competition is not the way to go. Some people simply don't want to join a team.

It will be interesting to see what happens for next season.

As I mentioned earlier ...

but I've posted in this thread as rounders is the most active team and also the team most likely to be affected and have the stongest views on any changes

BTW I would be planning this to be a one off change ... in the same why that IMHO changing last season to 20 scoring places has helped imensely on numbers playing and also myself, NB and Stix going through all the inactive players / teams and having a good clear out before the start of this season meant we could see the wood for the trees

so I dont see this as an every season thing - more a one off correction ... there is going to be an optimal team number

its really really important that members realise that I am not trying to penalise one or two eams for doing well or previously doing well - Rounders are an example of what can be done -

but

other teams with reasonably active (but less active) teams are possibly at their most likely highest activity level (say 3 players) ... if we have one or maybe two teams fielding 5+ and as high as 8 players then other teams will increasingly have zero chance of getting 1st

I dont want to discourage strong maximum / optomised teams so the only way I can see to solve this is to cap the team size at say 5

this would make it possible for a new team of 2-3 members who were only slightly active to score the odd points here and there for them to remain interested - and then get that motivation that rounders have

I'm not keen on the idea of only scoring a max of x number of players from each team - I think that would pretty quickly turn everyone off as that would mean those players chipping away scoring 2's and 3's for their team would no longer feel its worth playing

I'm not sure if even rounders team members would all be so active it they didnt feel their was a pretty strong chance of earning points for their team (2/3rds of a 30 strong field score)

In terms of names and restructuring - I'm only thinking we would do this once and kind of thought old names + new names would be ok but I guess not

Last seasons preparations meant alot of work trying to contact inactive & active players and admin over alot of teams to try to make sure nobody got left behind + 20 place scoring + adding the FT individual / team league on Saturdays meant that IMHO there were more than enough changes going on - all have proved to have been positive but it could have gone wrong ;-)

this is why I wanted to address the idea of overall team sizes once I could see how things were running in this season

just to add it might be worth just leaving things as they are for another season - as Ive gopt rather alot on at the moment

too much to be able to oversee a re-organising of teams if no-one is that motivated with the idea (it was hard enough worth start of last season)

if the other teams are happy then thats cool

added to which managers at some of the sites are getting so difficult to contact and organise things with and I'm actually getting sick of waiting a week for replies etc

I think we may have to have some host changes which may not be popular for some members (would be change of site but on same network BTW) and

this would also mean I would be able to offer the best offer on that network including rakeback

so it woud be a good thing for members

if the other teams are remaining motivated then we can address this again in a couple of months
as I cant realistically get all the changes done in one go if there isnt a big demand for changes then I can get on with other things on the TTD list for improving the site and the forum ;-)

Sounds good and fair Bob, glad that teams stay the same. To be honest i do feel that we where punish to finally get there, i mean we always try hard but never really make it to first place, and now that we have a strong team and try to fight and be active in games then finally we almost there, and then... "break up your team because that way other teams have better chance" do not sound fair.

i understand that maybe some teams get desmorilized if we are so apart in points, but that is supposed to happen when we try to actually be part of a team and help been active and playing most of games, versus players that only get sign in teams to can play the games from time to time.

When i try to scout players for our team between season, a lot of answers are that they not want to play with us because do not want the comitment, they just want to sign to a team to be aloud to play when they can, and that is not the end for team games, for that, i think is good the idea to have team/individual game also in carbon, that way they can play games and do not sign to a team only to play 1 or 2 games in all the season.

I see that in Full house team only 1-2 players actually play, in dark nights5-6, Uk 4-6, wild vixens 3-4, crazys 2-4, etc, is understandable that get less chance to be in the fight, but still i remember you comment at the start of this season that maybe 3 players from some team can join to 3-4 players from other team to make a 6-7 team and they say no. So, if they really want to be more competitive why not fusion teams?, i mean if 4 from 1 team are regulars join with another of 3 or 4 and have almost full team with regular people, lets be honest and really have in teams the people that really want to play in a team, and the ones that only want to be there to can play when they want let them play individual, that also take you the work to be posting pw in every team page and just post the pw one time in the private area like fulltilt team/individual.

I know that a lot of people cant play all the games so when i scout for the team only requirement i ask is that the player can play in at least half of season games, if season have 10 games, need to play at least in 5, that way you are clear since the begining and you actually get players that do want to play most games.

So, after all the work it looks that finally we made it, but now because of that other teams feel are in a desadvantage?. well Captains need to be honest in the teams and actually see wish players do want to play, if not at the end of season take them out, and if games are set to be open individual also that can cut all players that really do not want to be in a team and have any commitment

We are not a team of 10 that have same 10 players all the seasons, the base of rounders since i get in the team was 6, then every season we need to get more players because some get inactive or cant play, last season we get 4 new players, this season still we get a couple more players, and even one of our players cant play in carbon because new policy in there and still we keep fighting, then if teams want the same need to step up, it take some time to look/get new players but they need to send pms and not wait to some one aply.

Fusion teams to make them to be more competitive, not fair to punish teams that actually want to be in a team and fight for win.

Any way thats what i think, understand that for a forum is different and if need make changes well lets do it, but need to say that.

About new rooms, etc, well that is a thing that Bob need to keep the forum alive, so i know some of us do not like to change sites a lot, but if can tell us with time new sites is easy for us to have a BR when games start.

i could be wrong but i don't think anyone complained to bob saying teams are at a disadvantage, he probably decided for himself what was best for the forum. i also don't remember after we won the last 2 team leagues anyone on my team saying "now that were winning they want to change the rules and make it top 20 in the points." roll with the punches, no need to start complaining about how its unfair to change the rules, ain't the first time it happened. congrats to you all for being champs this season, you were by far the only team that showed the dedication it took to win it. as for next season if the rules are changed to make quality better than quantity i am all for it, hopefully it is better for the forum and the league as a whole.
