Default Online bad beats - read this book and feel better

    hi

ok - so you obviously had a bad beat and I know online players feel these happen all too frequently

but I have a solution (well to at least make people feel better)

read Anthony Holden's book - Bigger Deal: A Year Inside the Poker Boom

I'd read his original book (big deal) about his year on the road before internet poker

this one is his follow up 10 years later doing the same thing - and entering the WSOP main event but cronicling the online poker boom and the changes to live poker as a result

most interesting is the amount of relentless bad beats playing live

so I guess my point is they happen as miraculously and a often etc in B&M games as online - its well worth the read for anyone who enjoys poker

    cheers scrawnybob

Yes it is sick but it has also happened where you have had the dog hand and sucked out, but I guess it is human nature to forget our own good luck and only remember the hands where we were robbed.

TBH I think his preflop call was awful he knows he is behind and at best in a coinflip and that you are likely to have him dominated, but maybe you trapped yourself with such a small reraise given the stack size you both had.

It was a bad beat no doubt but your reraise was way too small, if I get raised while holding AA preflop it's all going in, and if a gambler wants to risk it fine. Mark the guy down as a LAG gambler and get him next time. We all know bad beats happen and people say it happens more online than in live games. The average live game has around 20 hands an hour, online it increases to around 50 or more, you are bound to see more bad beats, but how many times do we allow bad beats to happen by not betting high enough and allowing chumps to cash in ?

Sure, you remember the bad beats more than your own good luck. But if you are a better player, then you go to the showdown only with the better hand. You would never have called an all-in with TPTK only.

I guess what I am trying to say if you are the kind of player thinking about these things (as you obviously are, since you are posting here...), then very often bad beats are the only "unusual" thing that happens to you. For you to win, you rarely need luck. Another element of biased perception.

Default AA is a great hand

AA is a great hand..... provided that you can see the flop for a good price. After that, it all depends on how you wager.
