007 is right, a very bad beat, what are the odds of hitting the case A on the river? Not good!
You can lead a horse to water, but a Donkey will chase you to the river.

This is a tough one to take. I think you should've played the hand more aggressively preflop and on the flop. It sucks that he hit quads on the river, but a number of cards could've beaten you after the turn. Hopefully in the future, your hand will hold up in these situations.

I was under the impression that a bad beat referred to one hand, whereas a cooler referred to running badly over a period of time?

Without doubt a bad beat, pre or post flop agression would have made no difference. You had a set, he had top pair post flop, no one is laying down, turn you have a boat and villain has trip aces, stuff the poat as a result, river he strikes his one out card, pretty sick beat imo.

Well I agree that you should have been far more aggresive, being shortshacked it prob. wouldn't have mattered but all the same maybe you could have pushed him out, maybe. but flopping a mid set and him hitting running cards for quads is just sick, I feel your pain had the same thing happen to me on carbon a while back flopped top set of queens and the donk called my reraise on the flop with bottom pair of 6's and hit running 6's on turn and river to ko me. Was so sick I quit playing there for a few monthes but now I'm back and carbon is slowly making up for that screw job lol.

I can't answer because I don't know what a "cooler" is. Can you explain?
