Default Bad Beat or Not??

Pre-flop I was on the button with AA, everyone folded round. I raised 4xBB, SB folded, BB called.

The flop came down, 10 9 8 (rainbow). I wasn't taking any chances so I moved all-in. My opponent calls straight-away, he has me covered in chips and shows QJ (off). He flops a straight. Turn & River never helped.

How would you of played this hand??

Default badbeat with AA

hi

well personally I wouldn't have put the BB on JQoff calling a 4x raise preflop

Unless you had built a really maniac / stealing table image I'd have folded JQ off in the BB and let the button steal 1 1/2 blinds - If you had seemed like a rock type player ... but if I'd figured you kept putting in a 3x / 4x raise on the button I'd have made a bit of a stand and called

So logically would only really be putting him on calling with decent pocket pair (if the game was fairly tight etc)

There are so many variables - he got lucky to hit on the flop

You could have been legitimately worried he hit trip 10's etc

If you'd checked to see what he did - any bet he made probably wouldn't tell you much - a steal / a made hand your not getting away from it easily

If the flop had been suited and against a good player I would have thought about laying it down - but the guy had balls to call 4x preflop

IMHO a hand like this comes down to table image of both of you

Was this tournie / cash game ?

if tournie how were each of your chip stacks ?

cheers Scrawnybob

It was a tourament and he had 5K and I had 4.8K. I moved all in because the flop was tricky!

Personally I felt I could of played the hand differently but that's poker, I was being greeeeeeedy.!

Default dont think you played it wrong

hi

dont think you played it wrong - maybe an all-in but then you might have wasted the hand completely

if the flop hits your opponents hand perfectly like that then its easy for him to play and hard for you to get away from

if i'd seen a Queen or a King (maybe even a Jack) I may have worried he had hit a set

but dont think you played it wrong

cheers scrawnybob
