well, u were 70/30 favorite, but I would hardly call it a bad beat
I'm part of the "best five cards" win crowd, and a bad beat happens at the quad level.
Pushing A rag while SS in HU is pretty standard. So I wouldn't even call it a suck-out

Personally, I don't think so.

Yeah, it was a bad beat, and a tough call that you made there. Even though it was a bad beat, that was a hand that you should have folded. There really was no need to call an additional 700 or so with the blinds at 10-20. That's 35 big blinds at that level in the early stages of a tournament. How did you fare in the tournament?
When at the tables, play for the love of the game and show respect for your opponents.

It is a bad beat, and I probably would have called. A pocket pair in heads up is always a good bet, unless he had been playing tight and lost those chips to you by taking bad beats.

i would classify that as a beat or outdraw. i call a 2 or 3 outer a bad beat. everyone plays different but i would have folded the 88 anyway. i would have expected 2 overs and not willing to risk that amount of chips in a coin flip at that early stage in a tournament. you were unlucky to lose the hand but lucky to be a 70% favorite when you called.

I can't believe it, but I have to agree with illlll here. Even heads up and an opportunity to knock him out, I don't see calling here. Best case I would have figured a coin-flip. But, you ended up preflop in better shape. Unfortunately the next two cards count.

I ended up winning, just took longer. And he had been playing ultra-aggressive, and I was playing pretty tight that is how I got the chip lead in the early blind structure.
A6 off-suit vs. 88 -- wouldn't you pretty much consider that a 3-outer?
Thanks for all the thoughts, I really enjoy the different perspectives.

General rule pocket 88 or better is a good call = just my opinion because you are better than half the deck , hopefully they hold
