Calling it a night after this one....

I ran into pocket aces 8 times today. Ouch. Then I finally get them, on a final table where top 5 cash. and I needed them badly. Really thought this was my chance to push into the money.

Only posting all of these to see if anyone sees anything. I am not sure I can play any of these differently given chip stack, time in tournament, and reads of other players, or just sheer goodness of cards. Oh well. Some days are just not yours.

Would be very interested to hear some expert judgements on this.

Personally I think this is just one of those hands were you were doomed from the off.

Although I dont mention it too often I am a great believer that your pocket cards - whatever they are - are utter garbage until the flop has been laid. Then you can decide if you have a decent enough hand to play.

Problem with pocket Aces - as has been mentioned previously - is that they look good but often fall short of someone with any other pocket cards or any other joined or suited cards as they have more outs than you do.

In my personal (non-expert) opinion you did nothing wrong and just got beat by the will of the gods.

you should have folded preflop. obviously, your goal was to make the money not win.

no, i'm being sarcastic. this hand should give you a boner preflop. you have someone betting into you and you can more than double up with AA. not much more you can want.

the question you should be looking at, how did you get in this situation? you have 5 BBs. did you suffer bad beats previously? did you play too conservatively? were you card dead?

look at these questions and improve your game.

pirates is talking sense. whay again are u in such bad shape early on. would love to see the hands u played before this one. Because you are the SS here. I agree with pirates that you need to look at your game before you get to this hand for an answer.

Do you play loose and agressive and lose, then get AA and continue the aggressiveness. Of course u are gonna be called by any observant chip leader. poker happens. AA is not a win. Chip accumulation is. That is done by playing the player not the cards. (hehe, cards help, what cards u get is verry important, but not near as much as how u play whatever u have)

The point is , I am seeing a lot of hands u post where, u are SS and pushing and then wailing , duhhh. Like pirates said, look more at the hands before those SS hands.

1) calling 80 on the river with QQ and the board KKT6T was kinda silly
2) the 9 7 off suit play in the SB. you completed the blind, then called a raise by the BB. You flopped an open ended straight. Then called 200 on the turn. a risky play, as you had horrible position, and at the start you were at 11xBB. I wouldn't have done that.
3) the Q 3, where u ended up with 2 pair. You shoulda folded on the river because a straight and flush possibility was showing and your opponent ( who smooth called your turn raise) was betting into you.
