Ugh-swear is right. Just can't get some people to fold top pair shit kicker. If he even thought about the flop, he should have realized he needed runner runner to beat you unless he put you on a small pp which would make you the idiot.

Idiot didn't even have a str or flush possiblity. Very unlucky there.

What you just expected him to fold top pair? Are you crazy? Your play looked so fishy I woulda called 100 times in a row with same exact cards. I mean he had off suit cards so he coulda made two different flushes. It looked like you were over betting bottom pair for sure. Had top pair with a 5 kicker... I'm callin EVERY time!

Default made bottom end straghts

hi

hell I think you were unlucky BUT

I always get a bit twitch about making bottom end straghts, especially anything involving paint

until I saw his cards when you said he had called I would have put him on AK or A rag suited (or infact A 10 for the higher end of the straight)

on the one hand ...

he has you covered 2-1 with a chip stack of 37k to your 18k all-in so although I dont think I would have called your all-in on that board with AK / Ace rag he would have

to have called with K5 off for half his stack IMHO was a bad call ... I dont think I would be making that call all day (probably folding 80% of the time)

on the other hand ...

if I was him facing an 18k all-in with that flop at the least I would be putting you on AK, trip 10's or making the nut straight

the pot is what 2k with antes if I were him I would be thinking you brave to put your 18k all-in on a total bluff against his 2x stack

so if him I would have folded

Short answer IMHO I would not have gone all-in with your hand (personally) and if I was him I wouldnt have called you all-in with K5 ... you should have been pleased he called and you just got unlucky

cheers scrawnybob

I think I was hoping for a call as there are very few hands ahead of mine and short handed I'll not get a better chance to double up. It was costing nearly $2000 a round with ante's and with only 4 left they were coming round quickly as we weren't seeing many flops. Sometimes you have to take the chance or your blinded out. A win here puts me in 2nd spot.

When he showed K 5 he needs runner runner to win or split. Of course he gets them so I swear hence the post title.

I'm not bemoaning the beat that's poker but thought it was worth sharing.

Al

PS Bob he had $87k not $37k so nearer 4 to 1

Default I would have bet less BTW

hi

If I'd wanted to be sure to get a call ...

I would have betted less

IMVHO puting 17k into a 2k pot isnt really a guaranteed way to get a call ... at least not from hands that your beating (which is most likely)

that he called with K5 I find suprising

and maybe you'd picked up that he would call such a big bet with a bad hand

I guess I'm saying that while you might not have flopped the nuts - you flopped a big hand ... and with the exception of this guy

9/10 you would have only got a big bet called by a better hand or one with a real chance of improvement

& 9/10 weaker hands would have folded without hesitation to this bet

therefore making such a big bet with the near nuts seems a bit rash if you wanted to them to get all their money in ... that might just be me though

you did well to get 4th and you got your money in good and got unlucky

cheers SB

Default knew stix post seemed out of character

lol

I thought your post seemed a bit wierd stix ... was looking forward to some super inciteful explaination why your money would go in 100 times every time with K5 on the that flop

damn you stix your dark humour caught me again ;-)

cheers SB

Default a Chop with AA

On AP this past weekend fairly early in tourny, I am the BB with rockets, had several limpers and the SB raises with about 2.5x pot. I'm thinking GREAT!, so I re-raise, which is about 2/3rd my chips, his as well since it was early everyone else gets out of the way, and he went all in. naturally I called being heads-up.
He had AK off and flops a set. Just my luck right? turn and river work well 4 me giving us both A high str8's. The best part was him chastising me for a suck-out in the chat box. lol :-))
