Thread: My first suck out that really affected me!!

Default My first suck out that really affected me!!

I was playing in a MTT last night when i was in the top 10 in chips with like around 3/4 of the peeps out when i get dealt pocket KK's, yea i said to myself right? Well too many times i have slow played high pocket pairs trying to maximize my winnings at each hand ( like T.J. Cloutier teaches ), just to get rivered because of not going for the kill so to speak. So last night i decide i will change up my style , you know as to be unpredictable so the blinds were like 100/200 and i raise to 1000, everyone but 1 player folds and then the flop is 3,J,2 so i shove all in and this person calls then a 4 gets dealt and at this point i'm thinking "no it won't happen".Well he is holding a 5,7 and the river sure as hell is an A..........waaaahhh
I am an advocate of people being able to play their cards any way they want to and normally don't get upset but C'MON, 5 freakin 7 off suite to boot and you call all-in??????????Maybe someone here with more experience can tell me what i did wrong by changing my style? Should i have continued to slow play? Should i have just shoved all in pre flop? Constructive advice appreciated, comments about my dweebishness or my lack or ROI not needed thanks

I find it hard to believe in a MTT 3/4 of the field have gone by the time the blinds hit 100/200
but even so a lot of things could affect the way he played this
How many chips did you have left after your bet
Was he on a flush draw on the flop as well as a straight draw if so maybe he was priced in to call your all in
I'm not saying his play was good but it would be nice to have a bit more information
Its always better to celebrate the good days than brood over the bad days

Yea in case you didn't know T.J. Cloutier is a broke ass degen so I would say PLAYFUL gives better advices than him. He even sold his WSOP bracelet for like 3k, that's how smart he is.
Good things won't come with slowplaying at your stakes. It's value bet, value bet and value bet. That is how you maximize ur winnings! If you get fancy you will have nightmares (trust me) of the horrible hands that cracked ur Aces.
Be happy he called with that hand, smile and move on..

Wow Coolbloggerr, that was an excellent informative post, maybe you should sit down and chat with Playful

Even if it was a flush draw it could be 7hi at most, so I guess you just fell foul to "hot donk syndrome" Petey, sorry there seems to be an epidemic at the moment.

TJ sold it for 3k? again, Wow!!! Now there's a fella that needs 1800 I'm a horriblegamblerandIcan'thelpmyself. Good look on that 3k-3mil in 30 days challenge TJ.
Maybe he should just write books and move to Florida.

It was a smaller forum game but even so maybe it wasn't 3/4 of the peeps gone but the hand still went like that, so anyways thaks for the answers....and thanks for the info on T.J., as i'm sorta new to online poker and never watch the pros on tv really i thought he was good, lol after all he is pic-clubs main man right?Last night he was on Rounders Radio talking about slow playing your high pockets again,he said the biggest differance between pros and just good players is knowing how to maximize each hands profits and that good players will get to aggressive and cause the other players to fold so therefore ruining your chances at a big win, but every time i have tried slow playing it almost always seems to hurt me for that exzact reason of the people i'm trying to maximize from still being around when the river hits and sinks me!!Maybe i won't listen to him anymore, hey PLAYFUL, got any advice??

Sometimes it is jut bad luck that comes our way.
I woulda worried about losing to the old 2 pair.

Now that this has happened would you do it any differently if this happened to you again??? Or would you play the same way??? That is what I try to take back. Sometimes I would play the hand the exact same way(because you mention every time you do not push it gets cracked so be aggressive). Other times if it takes
you out of the tourney, you say if I had a chance to be paid more, should I go in this hand. And see, using this hand as an example, you can have the 2nd best starting hand in poker land and crap still happens. So now you have the experience not to do the all in since you have seen KK get busted instead of using hearsay as experience.

I think you played it right. Just bad luck and you ran into a Donkey. If you Pushed ALL IN preflop i bet the Donkey would have would be more enticed to call. With KK i don,t like to go ALL IN until i see the flop. It seems to me an Ace always flops when i have KK. So i like to wait to see the no ACE flop. When players go ALL IN I sometimes read it as a weak hand like Low Pockets and they don,t want a call. But in the long run you want to get some action and payoff from the KK,s. And you normally do. REALLY ,, your 1st bad beat ,,, ??? Hold on tight... lol

Well i'm thinking that it 's better to play aggressive a little bit more because like peeps have told me, at my stakes the risk of a river card killing me isn't worth the little bit i would make by just going ahead and running them out of the hand , then if i had pushed right from jump street this guy prolly still would have called but maybe differant cards come up. The one thing i am learning every day is that in every situation we can face on these tables the is usually a couple of differant ways to handle things and who's really to say whats the best? I know i'm not qualified so i try to learn a bit more and this site has some very knoweldgable players so i am trying to be a sponge and soak it all up while i'm here
