Thread: Pokerstars has to be fixed...

  1. #1

Default Pokerstars has to be fixed...

I have been away for awhile, but I think I need to talk a little more poker before I get my money taken from pokerstars again!

    This involve two tournaments:

First, I need to let you know I was down to $4.75 in my bank roll. I don't play for a lot of money online anyways for these two exact reasons!

    Fisrt game:

I was in a $1.75 2 table SNG, I was third in chips and on the big blind(200-400). 5 players left the chip leader had raised 3x the pot to 1200. I'm sitting with 6 6 heads up, so I make the call keeping my fingers crossed to hit the 3rd 6.

Flop comes out rainbow 7 6 7. I'm like thank you God, so I check and he goes all in. I slow play the call think he may have 7's or even worse suck me out with a higher pocket pair. I said the odds of him having 7's in the hole are slim I gotta call.

Make the call and he turns over A Q off, I take a big sigh of relief, and wait to collect my pot. Not so fast the turn another 7. The river you guessed it another freaking 7. I get 5th place and no money. Guy beat me with quads and an Ace kicker.

    Second Game:

10 minutes later after wanting to punch someone face, and kick a hole in the wall. I settle myself and say I'm not out of money yet. I play in a $2.20 180 person turbo SNG and going well. I am sitting in 7th place with 23 people left. Top 18 get paid. Dealt pocket A's. Sitting 3 spots passed the big blind.

4X's the big blind I bet, and get called by on again a large stack. Flop comes out A 7 5. I go all in incase he was chasing the hearts. He calls, and no he wasn't chasing the hearts. He had 6's, a sure win right, nope. Turn an 8, and last but not least the river 4.

I don't think I ever want to play online for money anymore, that crap just ain't right, and I mean the chance of losing the way I did back to back can't be very good odds. Both times it was to a runner runner.

My question to you is, should I stop playing online for money? I would really like your opinions, because I have some unbelievable bad luck!

2 games is such a small sample size to say that a site is rigged. looks like a bad combination of bad bankroll management and bad luck. like PO stated above, set mining at that stage is pretty risky, you even said it yourself " i make the call with my fingers crossed hoping to hit the 3rd 6".

1st one, tough break, 2nd one, nasty suckout but at those stakes people are playing for the suckout. Common sense doesn't apply.

My opinion forget the cheap SnG's and tournies and play micros until you can play $5-$10 SnG's where I'd imagine players as a whole are a bit tighter (but don't hold me to that, I see plenty of idiots pushing $20 on 4 outers)

At least on the micros you can suffer a bad beat, buy back in and recover your losses instead of playing 3-4hrs to get kicked in the nutz and your evening is ruined! My opinion anyway

Hindsight being 20-20, I will say what I think. First game, I woulda not gone in in the first place. So many times have I seen a low set lose to a higher set. The only reason to jump in the fray is if you had only 3 blinds left. Just my opinion.

The 2nd game gives you the most chance to improve your gameplay. With you in 7th
and with 23 players. If 5 players drop, at worst you should end up in 12th position. This game was perfect training to teach you to stay out of dogfights until you are in the money when in this position. Otherwise you let people with my style of play finish in the money instead of bubbling. If you just would ignore your hands even if they are KK or AA or suited connectors, this game is the only way to burn your fingers to let you know stay out of mischief until you are in the money. I do know some friends say they would rather be top 5 or nothing. It is amazing how many times I make it to the final table with 3000 chips and 3 people lose with 15 times more money than me, because they are not patient enough to let the blinds take out some players.

Last is money management. If I have a bankroll of $4.75, I would only be entering tourneys that cost 55 cents to enter or more ideally 26 cents to enter. If you want to be in the game, rule is do not risk more than 10 percent of bankroll in any game. But as another person already suggested, you want to play this dollar-size tourney, deposit $20, preferably $40 so you won't be playing over your head. Then you can last these bad swing of cards. Because good play will profit in the long run, not in 5 games.

You can,t get CUTE at the time of the game. You should have known the Big Stack was betting high cards Ace-X or even a pair and you flopped a Boat. A big raise right there would have taken it down.Played it right 2nd hand and was just unlucky. But as pointed out earlier if you just want to make the $$ and not win the tournament don,t play against the Big Stack.I often find the Big Stacks always seems to find a way to win a hand they don,t deserve.Thats my paranoid therory... lol

I know I have stopped playing at PokerStars except for special tournies. I just was running bad, and it started affecting my game not only there but other places. With that said, I have seen SICK beats at every site I play at: BoDog, Cake, Carbon, Doyle's, FullTilt, and PokerStars.

I have also figured out anything under a $12 buy-in for a lot of people are just there for the thrill. So expect to see completely illogical plays. Good news is, I have found this has helped me a lot in live games when I play them (especially in Vegas) because very little surprises me any more.

As the others pointed out, in tournaments, you have to decide before getting into a dogfight in a hand, if A) you should be in it, B) if winning it will increase your chip stack by enough to make a top 3 finish more likely, C) if losing it will not decrease your chip stack by enough to make a top 3 finish less likely. You cannot be completely passive, but you don't have to be in hands because you can.

As for bankroll management, it did not look like you were playing desparate or scared, but you were possibly numb to the $$$ and that can affect your game too.

Good luck at the tables. If you are looking for good freerolls, do the 3 steps at carbon. fairly easy to build a bankroll there for $0 investment.

I really don't understand how I was being cute playing pocket aces? I had the most dominating hand in Texas Hold Em, I will play them 100% of the time. No one has a better starting hand. Also after the flop, I had the best possible hand. That is where I get upset. Why would I sit on A's ever?

Edit: Sorry, should read before I react!

I was referring to your 1st hand of pocket 6-6,s and flopping a Boat. A big bet on the flop and I don,t see how he could call. But its hard not to slow play a Boat. Losing to quads like that is Sick I agree.
