Default What's the worst position 2 b in?

AS far as the worst position to be at any table is being SHORTSTAKED..Knot only do the chip leaders tear yah apart butt also the blinds in the late stages will knock you out..Any suggestions how to avoid this dilema and get back into the game??

I think too many people panick when they are SS'ed early. When the blinds are still low enough, you can still play poker, not just shove hopin to get lucky. Even when blinds start puttin you in a bad spot, I think you can still be selective somewhat, not just shovin with first face card you see. I've seen guys come back with only 3 or 4 blinds left. I know that's not "proper" poker to let yourself get that low, but I'd rather wait and try to double up twice with decent cards than just shove because I only have 10 blinds. Just my opinion.

Huummmm. There is no much ways to avoid being SS late in tournaments. I would tend to say play as the opposite of the table, consider your left handed opponents range of hands to call AI and reconsider your own range of hand to raise AI accordingly.
The only other way to avoid this dilemna is to play cash-games.

obvious answer which is alot harder in practise

u have to widen up ur range b4 entereing shortstack position push from small blind, button, or 1 infront of button dont forget on top of ur cards u have fold equity. to me ur question is what u need to know in single table sit n gos u need to get the balance between stack size and agression right.

    its a tough one

To answer your thread question (Whats worst pos to be in), I hate when I have a big hand, either preflop (Q Q or K K), or after flop (2nd or 3rd nut flush for example) and I am sandwiched in between two opponents still in the hand. First gut bets big, do I raise and scare off third guy or worse yet lose to only 1 or 2 hands that can beat me. If I call and third guy pushes, then what? Does he really have A A (for preflop ex.) or nut flush (Post flop ex.). That's the position I hate to be in.

I feel comfortable playing the Short Stack.I agree some players Panic too early. One good thing about being the Short Stack is if you catch JJ and up your bound to get Action when you Push.Just one double up can put you back in the game or at least give you some breathing room.

absolutely and it is one of the reasons why i try not to make the panic push that a lot of people seem to say is a must.

just because you only have 7-9 big blinds left, doesn't mean you should instashove Q5o when its folded to you in MP. patience is a virtue. protect your chips like they are your children until you're taking on water.

    Just a few thoughts.

    1) I was finding myself in this position too often, and after some posts here and examining hand history, I was able to determine my pre-flop hand selection was too narrow. It was allowing me to get to cash line, but never giving me a real chance to win.

    2) I had an opportunity to sit with Mike Caro at DoylesRoom a couple times, and one time he was in a very friendly and talkative mood. We discussed short stack strategy and he actually said there are times (depending on table) that he would rather not have fold equity and wait for a good hand rather than push with any two cards. I have watched him play since then and he does sometimes do this. I asked him, and he said you never know when you are going to get hot and too often he has waited like this and gotten back to back good hands doubled through twice and was back with some chips.

    3) Is there a pattern on why you are ending up in this situation?
    a) playing too many hands and folding?
    b) two aggressive with position and losing showdowns?
    c) too passive in general?
    d) bad beat?
    e) card dead and blinding off?

Understanding why you are getting into this position might also be a way to better avoiding it.

    Good luck at the tables.
