Looking Good... umm. then not, lol
I must admit, I hate losing 80/20's when the chips get allin preflop in MTT's. Worst is when you're making a deep run of it, you're approaching the bubble and then POOF... or when you're actually deep in the money (when does that happen? lol).. and again.. you get it in great and lose to the miracle.
Last week & had a bit of a soul crusher on an account where my bankroll is quite low right now. I had accumulated 10 T tickets ($26 & $75) from an initial investment of 12 Step1 buyins & ~10 Step 0's, for a total of ~$50. I came out far ahead and was looking forward to taking some shots at the $26donkaments (have a couple ok scores in them b4), hoping for a decent score obviously, but would be okay if I just came out ahead in the whole thing (the steps took ALOT of time & played ALOT of games trying to obtain those tickets). In all of the tourneys I went out in Top20% and got it in as a fav. in all but one of them (one I went out earlier, on my own doing, coolered getting JJ in vs QQ.. not really that bad but was an error on my part at the time).
My last shot at it... closing in on bubble (I think we're close?.. not sure how close though & don't bother to look).... EP shoves ~18bb's.. I wake up with KK in BB (or SB?).. snapcall.. he turns a T.. and I'm crushed (still had a few chips, ~4bb's.. but went out shortly after.. not realizing that I was about to go out in 190th when top 189 pd.,.. sigh.. I could've used a min. cash there of $43 at the time).
Today I take a shot at a few MTT's... Stars & Fulltilt. Tables were super fishy & it's getting me a bit tilted but not enough to alter my play much if at all. I'm taking ALOT of notes cuz there's alot of really f'd up play.. something I'm hoping to take advantage of if given the oppurtunity (COME ON OPPURTUNITY.. PLEASE PRESENT YOURSELF!!!.. LOL).
Okay.. here it is... I wake up with KK in MP.. UTG1 limps (kind of a tight player but has called off too much with TPGK type hands)... then the one I'm REALLY hoping to get involved is next to act... (Hmm.. how much will I raise if they limp along too?... maybe 5x?.. maybe 4x?... I don't want to lose them but I do definitely want to try to get as much $'s into the pot as poss. here).
What? ... They've gone & shoved ALLIN for 43bb's in early-mid-levels (well.. kinda early levels still 50/100.. but in my notes I refer to this as early-mid. as it helps to distinguish how they play at particular stages of tourney... play at 15/30 is generally ALOT different than 50/100). 4,300 into the middle... what could be better?
I snap call with my KK in MP.. and the rest of the table folds...
Here comes the flop.... 2-8-T.. so far so good!!.. and the turn an Ace... Yippee!!.. I'm now a HUGE favourite to win... they're drawing to 2outs... 95% favourite here now!!
And the river.... a '6'.. BOOM.... just like that & I'm outta there, lol.
Part that sucks for me is... you take your time, being super observant, deciphering how you will play vs. each opponent when or if given the chance... your spot arrives (a super easy one obviously... not like any of the prior legwork was even necessary... perhaps just a big waste of time actually)... and 'poof'.. it's over & the time you put in is wasted unless by chance you happen upon their tables again in the future (I haven't played that many MTTs on Stars and am finding I don't see too many of the same players in the MTTs I play... whereas on Fulltilt quite often I'll have notes on 3players from before.. sometimes alot more
Here's the wonderful hand... sigh. On the flipside (positive side of things.. no sense in dwelling).. I need to go get some groceries before entering another handful of MTT's and to get going on them without a bunch of food prepared in advance isn't a good idea as I expect to be playing for a good 6-8hrs. once started. Off to the grocery store I go.
