Often I'll exercise 'pot control'... ie. with the AQ on a A64 flop.. I'll likely lead out for 1/2 pot only (hoping weaker aces will call me down ). Other times I'l actually check my top pr., fearing that I'm folding out ALOT of hands I'll get value from on the turn if I just check the Ace flop (ie. JJ, TT, 99, 88, 77). < this is what I'll often do.
If I choose to cbet this Ace-flop, and villain calls, I must consider their holdings (hmm.. they may have a set?). This is a spot where I'll often check the turn, for 'pot control'.. If I'm ahead here there's not many cards my opponent can catch that I need to be worried about (maybe a 2-outer on a board like that if they're holding a mid pr. This will often allow me to lose the minimum or even possibly get away from the hand.
Sometimes winning = not losing.
