Thread: Three Bad Beats in a row!

  1. #1

Default Three Bad Beats in a row!

So here's an insane set of Bad Beats for y'all:

First off, I had pocket aces and she had straight draw (not sure if it was gutshot or even double gutshot, but w/e). She betted, I stayed on because I had two pairs by the turn. Then, on the river she got a 9 to get the straight. She betted way higher than her odds would allow, so I assumed she was a bad player. There was no way she could have anything before that river card. A set was out of the question, due to her standard fish behaviour.

The second hand I got, almost immediately after the first, I lost to her again with my Jacks full of Queens Full House against her QUAD Jacks. I guess she slowplayed me properly, but I have to ask why she plays so bad the other times if she's a great player? This was also my first Full House in several days now.

Third hand I played, this time on a different table, I lost again with my Aces and Tens against a player I knew had nothing, but bluffed his way to the river that gave him a FLUSH.

    Is this normal?!!

I'm playing exactly like I should, Tight Aggressive in the same way as the pros and changing to Loose Aggressive now and then against tight players to steal their blinds etc. Solid play with solid cards, and I KNOW how to bet properly - I'm also definitely no scared money.

Yet, I'm not earning any money at all. I get a steady income with stealing blinds and leading out. Gus Hansen taught me this, and it's effective. But still, once the big hands come and I'm in high favor to win (outs-wise) I seem to ALWAYS lose (at least for the last month or so). So many bad beats it's getting ridiculous.

Is variance really this unforgiving? I've lost $100 the last two weeks playing 1c/2c stakes, although half of that loss could've been prevented by better play. But $50 loss? I know my bankroll wasn't as high as recommended ($160).

I keep coming back to that conspiracy - "the sites are rigged". Sure, the cards are handed out completely at random, but that doesn't eliminate the possibility. Well, I don't really believe anything's rigged, but this is just getting WAY too statistically improbable. And today just took the cake - THREE BAD BEATS in a row?!!

Can someone please illuminate my broken soul? I need a fix! xD

    Damn, these bad beats hurts...

I'm guessing I need to limit my big plays until my bankroll can sustain beats like that?

How are you guys playing? Do you avoid the turn and river because of the variance involved, so that you don't risk losing so much money?

How big of a precentage of really big hands should be played compared to the standard chipbuilding blindstealers and flopbuster leading bets?
