    Default bad beat or not

    hi Candy

I think it was a really unlucky river - but with your hand I think I'd have been tempted to raise on the flop rather than flat call (if I read the history right)

The fear is always that you scare them off on a made flop but personally once they bet I tend to come back at them and either get them into standard size re-raising or see what how strong their hand is

if they check then it's tempting to slow play it but - as happened here things go wrong or they hit something that helps them a bit too much

pesonally I know you said you hadnt put them on AA KK or KA but when the ace comes I would be reassessing the possiblilty of the AK

I agree AA / KK is unlikely and would have probably been played more aggressively preflop but players generally have more variance on playing AK

The other thing to factor in is he is also trying to put you on a hand - if he has an ace and didnt see you being aggressive (not putting you on AA KK) then he may to have decided you had nothing

Always worth thinking about what they think your representing too - this explains alot more bad beats getting played down to the river or all-ins getting made / called on the turn

    hope thats a help

    cheers scrawnybob

Thumbs down Thanks, reasses my game

I never looked at my game from that perspective. I had been playing with this guy and he was raising hands as weak as KJo for 3 or more bets at times depends if they were suited or not, I had what I believe to be a decent read on this guy, becuase I felt I could get the money from him if I ever got into a pot with him.

When I checked the made hand, I knew he would come over the top I was unsure of the other person, but it didn't matter when I decided to take my hand against his hand. I knew that I was winning at that one point or at least I fealt 85% sure prior to the River at the river I thought I had a 50% chance. Which from what I understand is pretty damn good in poker.

Any other player, I would have layed that hand down witht he extra K, but I would have had to been sure they were strong enough, otherwise if I sense any tell or weakness, I am going for the attack when I get the oppertunity and hand!!!!

I am sorry but it is just in my nature to play this way, will I still be able to earn? Or will I fail, I feel I can lay it down when I know I am beat, but not when I have some sort of read that tells my soul this is the hand, even if I get sucked out. I know I was ahead before that and I was right, I was just not as lucky as he was that time, thats it and thats all.

I want to get better, but I cannot change my aggressive nature and I can not slow play a hand unless I know the player, otherwise I am aggressive...aggressive I am!

    Default Definitely a Bad Beat

Srry about this "incident" candylicker. Trust me, you are not a dumbass at all! Something similar to this happened to me (I'll post it in a few minutes). I hate it when the donkeys get as lucky as they do. For once I would agree with Phil Hellmuth when he said "if luck wasnt involved i guess 90% of these idiots would already be eliminated (it was only the first day of the main event!)

Again srry about ur misfortune. Dont wrry ur time will come to get lucky also.

    Default Good Assessment

Scrawnybob, I agree with you 110% on your analysis of the situation. It is always best to think from someone's mind other than your own. I can tell you're being quite helpful to these bad beat stories!

Default badbeat advice - heopfully helpful not critical

    hi guys

yep I definately dont think you played your hand badly candy - but I've definately found looking at badbeats / scare cards on the board from the other players perspective a helpful extra tool

this is a double edged sword - sometimes you can use it to make them put you on a hand your not even close to holding - sometimes you can use it to make sense of someone elses "bad play"

this in fairness can lead you to make some odd looking plays - and get moaned at for dealing a bad beat on someone else - in NL implied odds are so variable and situational that they can almost make anything playable - or nothing

Thats the great thing about poker - it really does all depend

In terms of advice - I am no expert, I make the same mistakes everyone else does, but I try to offer as much perspective and worthwhile left field ideas as possible - Ideas and thinking should help everyone to look deeper into the game - that in itself is really the important thing

Players who post up hands for ideas / suggestions are already pushing that process which in itself will improve all aspects of their game.

Hope no-one ever thinks my suggestions / thoughts are criticisms - they're not

The thing about bad beats is they will happen less the more you dig into why / how they happened -

If you just put them down to "damn luck" and the odds will always prevail the less likely you are to cut out the bad beats that were aviodable or controlable.

    Hope thats a help

    Good Luck at the tables

it was a dodgy all-in by him, especially after your re-raise on the turn was screaming a king or better.

as it was you got him all-in with only 3 outs. i'd take that any day of the week normally !

    .....very unlucky !
.........just because it is, doesn't make it so !!!

yeah man you didnt play it too badly but if you'd bet bigger either pre-flop or on the flop you can hopefully eliminate the guys with aces etc. who have shit all but are hoping to hit top pair. i completely agree with scrawny bob too, but you can never be too careful i guess. nothing shits me more when a guy hits something on the river, lost over 50 dollars one time when i had 3 queens and some guy hit a 5 on the river to give him a full house queens over fives

    him: [Q,5]
    me: [A,Q]

    flop: [Q,Q,7] turn: [2] river: [5]

    very painful indeed...

    Default King vs 9's

    me: QK
    other guy :99
    flop: 8KK
I call and the turn is a 9 I go all in and he see's me obviously.
I won't do that again. I let him see another card. I should have went all in after the flop.
