Default This Had Is Symbollic Of How My June Is Running!!

I am having a particularly crap month pokerwise, I am not hitting any of my draws, not winning my fair share of coin flips, have had Aces and Kings with exactly the same hand 2-3 and getting sucked out on when goin all-in or calling all-ins when i'm ahead.

This hand just sums up my entire month.

6 people left in a 9 person sng, I'm currently 3rd in chips with blinds 50/25

Me = AK (UTG)

I raise to 150 and get 2 callers,

Pot = 475

Flop = 4 K 6

I bet 400 (wanting to chase off any flush draws)

One guy folds, the other guy raises all-in.

I think for a while, thinking if he had Aces or Kings he would re-raise pre-flop. Eventually I think he is on a draw and is trying to buy the pot so I call which puts me all-in.

i am wrong in my judgement, but in a good way, he is not on a draw
he has KJ, giving him 3outs to win. So I am happy!

Turn = 7

Now giving him a 25% shot, and thats right you guessed everyone's favourite part of the board came.............

River = 5

Giving him the runner runner flush!!

I go from being a 4/1 favourite, to a 3/1 favourite to getting slapped in the face for the millioneth time this month.

Thankfully end of part of may and frst 2days of june saw me get my 2 biggest wins ever and this bad run has not dented my roll too much, just my head!! lol

Default just dont let the bad beats get to you

hi Dazzler

tough beats - just dont let them get to you

as a general note for anyone stuggling not to tilt after bad beats ...

I'm building back up my bankroll at poker.com - where I've done well in the cash games generally (rotten in the SnG's but I think I'm out of practise)

anyway instead of cashing in again to get straight into the $0.50/1 - $1/2 - $2/4 games I like (cashed out a bit too much after a good run)

I've started with the $3 left after paying out for the 4kingpoker tournies and in the space of a day or so playing in the $0.02/0.04 games I've got it up to $40

ok so how is this related to bad beats ?

the amount of bad beats I've seen, taken and to a lesser extent dealt in these small stakes games has been huge

the amount of 6 way pots, 3 or 4 way allins etc is amazing - BUT

even suffering AA getting crushed several times I've come out in profit - WHY ?

because the really easy to win / profitable games also have inherently more bad beats - because these are the games when you can get all your money in when you have the best of it and profit nicely 80% of the time - but get bad beats etc the other 20%

still when its all balanced out - an average player like me and more so a good player will ride out the increased bad beats in a profitable table - seriously the rest of the time the money is so easy and on offer you have to roll with it

I guess SnG's are different in that once they get lucky your out - but keep the faith - play good poker and you WILL win out

cheers scrawnybob

Default

I know what you mean Bob. A couple of months ago I read a little introduction piece that they have at the start of poker player magazine from the writers and one have them mentioned that he had loads of accounts at loads of sites, as you do. But a fair few of them had only small pieces of money, lower than the minimum cash out. He said that wheras he used to go to his usual limit find a table and play an 'all-in or fold' type game in the hope he got lucky and won some money, he used his small amount of money and went to the micro levels and grinded out there. He even went on to say it helped his multi=tabling abilty coz when he is play $0.02/$0.01 games he is playing with $20 over about 5 or 6 games but not committing a lot.

So after reading this I took the small amount I had left at one of the sites and sat at micro level and ground out a profit, and like you said had big hands crushed but still walked away with a profit. I actually think I won was more profitable from less than high premium hands, such as small pairs or suited connectors, than from hands such as AA or KK.

The only thing I would warn about when playing at low levels like that where, as you said, a 6 way raised pot is pretty much the norm, it is not always a good idea to call because your getting a good price. I'm not never do it, but just be wary of calling too many hands because your getting a good price.

Playing at the low levels also showed me how the skill level def does increase as you rise and I have stopped an urge I used to have to try and tear thru the levels and play with money I won, and then ultimately lost, because I just wasnt good enough. Now I'm rising thru them slowly, and not afraid to drop down again, I'm seeing more of a consistent profit. Whereas before on a higher limit I may have won big one night, i also lost big for 2 nights. Whereas now I mainly win medium pretty much every night!!
