Below is a shortened version of The only bad beat that's ever really got to me
the full rant is in my blog which may or may not be a regular read for you - It's a bit of an aquired taste - or rubbish - depending on how you look at it and life.
be thankful you only had $10 to stick in there rob. i've seen that play to many times with low pairs on micro tables and been outdrawn on a few of them. horrible, just horrible !
did he have anything to say afterwards or did you get the hell off the table fast ?
no I ended up cashing up again - stayed for a while and then got out to lick my wounds
I've ended up tilty and niggled all today - blown my bankroll at titan in the worst way possible and shot a good hole in the change I've got at PokerHeaven
guess it gives me some material for monday's blog
It's weird as badbeats usually dont bother me or I look at them again in context and can see they weren't really badbeats - or that they were trying a move especially in tournaments.
But that hand felt very different
This one hand though has undone my recently rather fragile game - think I will have to have some enforced time away from the tables for a bit - otherwise this hand is just going to eat away at me
thinks its going to be a bit like a golfer getting the yips
I had a small home game last night and virtually all night I was getting bizzarre flash backs to that hand.
i'm wondering if it's not so much that one hand but a general doubt you've had in the back of your mind that's just been exagerated by that one play. remember, in some ways you can't even call it a bad beat as that player probably thought he was ahead pre-flop. it was just stupid and annoying and this guy will lose money in the long run (if not to you, then someone else).
these things happen to me fairly frequently unfortunately, and frankly i just want to throw a brick at the computer every time. there's nothing worse than feeling that some dumb schmuck thinks he made a great play just because he got lucky. i guess that's what really bugs me.
if i may offer some humble advice :
when you do play again, play on your favourite site and in the type of game you feel most comfortable with. i think titan has really loose players (even in those $5 sitngo's) and the last thing you need right now is an unlucky losing streak. it's amazing how when you feel unlucky, you get unlucky ! get back to what you know best rob, play tight and hard and you'll be back on track in no time.
ok, that's my soapbox for today.
good luck .......and remember...........it's a jungle out there !

definately think its been a frustrating week or two playing the SnG's and the rake increase does annoy me
which is why I ended up going over to cash game and openly admitting to being rash playing 1/3 bankroll in one sitting
so yes I think I was already frustrated generally - and that one totally illogical hand has become the pinacle of the week
good advice to get back to where I feel more comfortable - not sure I have much choice LOL as I think pokerroom / holdempoker is the only place ive got a bankroll at the moment
It's about $120 up so I must me getting something reasonably right there - cheers for the encouragement
I know you're a strictly no-limit hold em' guy, but after hearing your stroy, I HAVE to share this with you.
I usually play no limit as well, but after many times of catching a bit of a tilt and losing a huge wad, I changed my "off-game" tactics.
By this, I mean that when I sense even the SLIGHTEST bit of a doubt in myself or how my game is going I totally switch gears and hit a few LIMIT tables...not pot-limit, but limit. After playing at a .25/.50 limit table you really start to see what loose is...you can spot these players right away and you can make a load off them fast. Now you might not get to go all in with the nuts, but I assure you they will call your raise and even reraise just to up the pot. Now, you are a disciplined player and they are definetly not and it shows so, A)you don't blow your whole bankroll, B)you make back a few bucks you just lost out, and C)you feel a whole lot better about the game you play after watching how horribly they play. Also, as much as you hate it when people take you to the river and suck out...it becomes alot more realistic for this to happen in your favor in limit games. And when you see the suckout and have to fold.....AT LEAST YOU HAVEN'T LOST IT ALL !
I know you hate it and I thought I would too but it sure helps mend some wounds. And it helped mend my bankrolls a few times too!
I just had the worse beat of my life, so much so that if it had been a live game i think i may have flipped the th table over.
its a $0.25/$0.10NL table. I get dealt KK and call a raise to $2 and so does the player to my left.
Flop comes 2,K,4. The guy who raised first up bets $1, and i raise it to $3. the guy to my left raises all-in, which is about $15 or so. The first guy calls straight away, so I put him on AK or AA. It kinda took me by surprise so I had to sit back and think for a while about what he could have to justify goin all-in. I come to the conclusion that I must have the best hand so i call.
The turn comes - Q and it is checked to the river
The river comes up a 6 so i bet $1 with confident that my trips are goin to hold up. The first guy calls. He ends up showing AA so i win those $2, but the huy to my left turns over a 5,3 off suit and wins with his straight. he then goes on for about 30mins about how good a play it was and that everyone else at the table sucks. I ended up getting really pissed off and went on tilt (which i am not proud of) but the guy really got to me calling raise 8x the big blind with absolute garbage and wins and thinks its really good play.
you've got it in one dazzler. it's not just the bad beat (and that one sucked), it's the fact that a player (if you can call them that) thinks he made a great move and then boasted about it. he will lose his money though .........he will !
