Default Bots?

Hey everyone-

Is there anyone that has been beat by a bot and known? I have, I was playing a player that I have been up against many of times and he has beat me almost everytime. And last night I took the worst beating when he took me out with 22 and I had AA. The flop came A86, turn 2 river 2 what do ya know quads. That was luck yes but I started to talk to the player and after chating on yahoo he told me that he uses a bot. I don't know much about bots but I was woundering if any one had some info on how to improve your chances of winning against a user that is AI
Thanks

i had no clue poker bots even existed! i'd find it too risky to play with them because playing poker is about smarts aswell as what hand you got... outplaying a bot sounds easy enough, for example.. overbetting the pot so the AI thinks you have something. i don't know if bots takes calculated risks or risks at all. i'd need more experience in this area to give any advice.

Default do you mean a bot or an odds calc ?

hi Styler & rogers

do you mean he was using a bot (rare) or an odds calculator (now quite common) ?

I ask because if you were talking to him then the player was there - which kind of defeats the point of having a bot (which incidently are not very common)

If he had a bot that would automatically sit on the software and play itself he would be off making a cup of tea or something else

if he had a really good bot he would be on the beach and not online talking to players

bots are

a) not very common - I mean really not very common at all - and also not allowed
b) not that clever and certainly wouldn't be programmed to go with 22 beyond the flop if it didnt hit trips

Maybe I'm wrong but I think it's more likely he meant he used poker odds calculator software which sits by side of the poker site giving advice and calculating odds / outs / pot odds etc - these are much more common and are perfectly allowed for online poker.

whilst they are very good for building your game they can be beaten my a human player
(we have an ad for an odds calculator - pokerbility - there are also ones like pokertracker and the list goes on)

you can throw a player using these by raising either well over the odds at which it would advise for example a call on a draw or also by betting well under which throws the player and the odds calc

Basically lets assume he had one or other they both work mathmatically - so you do one of two things or both -

either give the player with the odds calc the kind of bet for them to put you on a hand that either you have or you dont - depending on whether you want them to call or not

ie. representing, especially with scare cards down - this is the same as playing against very strict tight players - give them the signals you want to give them

hope thats a help

cheers scrawnybob

Fully agree with scrawnybob on this one. Playing a bot actually happens to SOME ppl now and then (I fully belive that) but that said, I also agree with scrawnybob that this is a RARE situation and IF it ever would happen, the owner of the bot in question would most certain not be there to chat

Reading the first post I cant tell if this was a preflop all-in situation or not since the hand is not descibed more then: "he took me out with 22 and I had AA. The flop came A86, turn 2 river 2 what do ya know quads." or if a move was made post flop, what kind of move etc etc

Anywhoooo Being beat with AAA is always a bad beat.... odds calculator or not

Default thanks for the help

Thanks for the info Bob. When I was talking to him he said he used a bot I don't know much more than that. And he would not tell me the name of the software. Although I did find an article in wired magazine about a bot called WinHoldEm. anyway thanks again for the help.

I was also woundering if any one here has used the poker tracker and if it is worth downloading.

Pokertracker (http://pokertracker.com/) works excellent and well worth its money if you ask me. I have used it before, but do not use it any longer though

How come you don't use poker tracker anymore. I was thinking about downloading it, but it doesn't track most of the sites I play in so it doesn't look to helpful for me.

Same reason really. I play most of my time at other clients/rooms then PT includes. Some clients I play only include cashgames aswell so I simply quit using it

(would still recommend it though ,o))

Default Bots.. good or bad

Hello All,

It is an interesting area the should bots be allowed or not. Personally I would like to see a tourney where no players are allowed and people program there bots to react how they want them to react and see who has the best system. If you think about it, in a thousand seat arena with no human area of error, with just 100% programmed systems by each individual... well the winner could actually write a saleable book as his/her system is almost infalable. I won't use a bot in a cash game, but I have programmed a bot (HoldemMemory) to play like I would play.... took me almost two hours just to program t=the preflop permutations! After that I downloaded partypoker, dusted off the cobwebs from my account (my first ever site I played on whene I was a poker virgin) and was looking forward to seeing my 'super system' work (the freeware version allows you to play on play money tables, all I needed really)...... Bugger doesn't work on that site anymore. nnnnnoooooooo. Good job I did not program any more info into the sodding thing... two hours of my life that I won't get back!

Has anyone else got a bot they think is good? Holdem Memory is very good, if I could get the thing to work on a site.

Maybe we could arrange a poker bot tourney? but it would have to be a no cash game as this sort of thing would attract interest to people would abuse an experiment like this.

I know it is not politically corresct to use a bot, but you have to admit this is an interesting area of experimenting. Who really does have the best system?

Take care and keep busting the fish's pairs with thy premiums.
