These things happen. Did he had pocket aces or just hit another Ace on the flop, turn or river? If there was an ace and he made large bets, then this is not a bad beat. The right move was to fold. If you both went all-in prefolp with pocket kings and aces, this is not a bad beat too. This is just a lack of luck.

Default badbeats - KK AA ?

    hi

I agree with little grave - big pocket pairs either coming heads up preflop or both hitting something and the "better" hand losing by the river really aren't bad beats

they're to players (possibly good possibly not) getting big hands

these are always the big money hands - where bad luck or a bit of good luck will hurt most

a bad beat is when a statistically inferior hand beats a better one - the bigger the statistical margin the bigger the badbeat

therefore KK AA is statistically a close as it gets - therefore not really a badbeat whatever happens

AA v 72 off is arguably the biggest potential bad beat or AA against small pocket pairs

you shoud be playing big pairs consistently hard and aggressive in order to minimise the badbeat potential

in effect increasing the chances of only going up against bigger but hopefully still inferior hands - over time this will pay of

maybe not everytime - but if we could win everytime and play everyhand correctly - we would either have xray / be cheating or be better than every pro poker player ever to sit at a table

    cheers scrawnybob
