    Unhappy Two hands and out

In a freeroll tournament I had 5410 in chips (twice the average stack - a fairly good position to cash).

    HAND 1: 1st to act preflop with [8 8] (blinds 50-100)
    -I raise 100 to 200
-everybody folds except big blind who raises 300 to 500
    -I call the 300 (heads-up)
    FLOP - [6 6 3]
    -opponent bet 300 - I called
    TURN - [6 6 3] [5]
    -opponent bet 300 - I called
    RIVER - [6 6 3] [5] [J]
    -opponent bet 300 - I called
    - opponent showed [JK] and rivered me - I lost 1400

HAND 2(the next hand): in big blind preflop with [JQ] (blinds 75-150)
-1st player to act calls 150 and everybody folds
    -I check (heads-up)
    FLOP - [9 J 5]
    -I bet 150
    -opponent raises 450 to 600
    - I raise 450 to 1050
    -opponent raises 3362 to 4412 all-in
    -I call 2810 all-in
    TURN - [9 J 5] [7]
    RIVER - [9 J 5] [7] [T]
    - opponent showed [8 J] and rivered me - I'm done

    My Questions:
    1) Are these just bad beats?
    2) Are other players just donks (am I a donk also)
    3) Should I have played these hands differently
-eg. fold after reraise in both hands
-eg. raise on flop in hand 1

I am tempted to give up freerolls altogether.

Hand #1, your opponent bet 300 on the flop then 300 on the turn ( that showed he was weak so why you did not push him and just keep calling? )

And for hand #2, it's definitely a bad beat that you could not go away from.

    Lightbulb The beats

Ye thats is quite bad , but bad beat ? hmm no .

You had bad luck , bad streak , you gave your opponent a chance to catch , what was bad, and that he caught gives out that you had no luck there, so bad luck .

But ye , the first hand when he bet 300 i would have min raised, he would have called, then he would have made the same 300 bet , i would have pushed all in , just pray he doesnt have a trips , the full , or the 99 1010 jj qqq kk aa . and lays down the hand ofcourse.

The second hand , he would not have gotten off it , he had hit and a draw , you should have layed that one down pre flop .

I suggest playing private freerolls , or buy ins , the overall freerolls you need to be (very very lucky) , patient, play more hands then normal.

    Better luck next time.

OK: I put these hands on a poker calculator and found the following results-
In hand 1 my %'s were 51.3%, 72.3%, and 86.3% for preflop, flop and turn - I now agree that I should have raised on the flop and turn.
In hand 2 my %'s were 68.9%, 76.6%, and 75.0% for preflop, flop and turn - I couldn't fold the hand preflop (big blind check) so I guess I was done.
So even if I won hand 1, the end result may have been the same.
