Default This is my life in poker

OK, I give a friend $10 to transfer me $10 at Full Tilt, because I don't want to deposit the full $50.

After getting bounced in a MTT, I buy-in to the .05/,10 NL $10 max table. I buyin for $4, drop down to $2 and buy back in for the rest of my roll (4.55). So I'm sitting on 6.55. Blinds go by a time or two and I look down at two 10s on the button. One guy limps in and I raise the pot. Big blind decides I'm steailng. After thinking it over, I decide to just smooth call.

Flop comes 5 5 3.

BB leads out for like 25 percent of the pot. I decide I have the best hand, don't want to risk seeing overcards, and push all in for about $4 more than he had bet. Pot is about $9 and he calls the $4 and turns over 88.

I made my read and I was right/wrong. Yes, I had the best hand. But he didn't have two overs. Of course, turn is an 8 and I'm stacked off.

I swear I am considering quitting the game except for freerolls and the $20 Bodog bonus that will be in my account later this week.

Default bankroll management

hi

bad luck - but that is what it is when you end up putting all of your bankroll into one table / one game / one hand

ideally players should have 20x the buy-in at any given table to ride out the variance - your not going to win them all and even the pro's dont expect to

if you had $10 and played at a $10 max buy-in table then before you really know where you are in terms of poker playing ability - you could reasonably expect to deposit and play another $190 to have played / have a bankroll of 20x the buy-in

hope that makes sense - but your expecting far too much from putting all your bankroll into one game - it should be a 1 in 20 shot at steady profit, not a 100% sh*t or bust shot at it with what will only be scared money

hope thats a help - see our article on Poker Bankroll Management

cheers scrawnybob

I agree with scrawnybob. you've got to have a larger bankroll behind you to be able to re-buy, to be able to play loose, to be able to put the tough decisions on guys like you who play with scared money or just to fight another day.

to see what i mean her's an example: so it was a ring game and i was sitting with K J in first position and flop came J 9 4.

so i bet half pot and get a re-raise from a much shorter stacked player which i didnt have a read on but having him covered i easily re-raised him for all he had. having a proper bakroll means also that any hand under the "nuts" is going to be folded by him.

He called me there and flipped over the J 9, but again- any hand under it would be folded, and in anyway i had my outs to outdraw him on the turn or the river.

Smile No challenge no poker

Every one has bad game's like the one your describing. I hate day's like this, but if there wasn't lousy day's and all good one's, What fun would poker be if we could win every time we played. Where would the challenge be. You said you wanted to quit playing. Just think if the challenge was gone! No one would play then either. Don't give up.

I agree with scrawnybob too, you will be bad beats every time you decide to play poker.
You cannot put all your bankroll into one hand.
Best luck next time, and manage your bankroll wisely

it is not my entire bankroll, just want i decided to play with that night on full tilt.

i had basically the max buy-in for that table, so i'm not too sure about the 'puitting pressure on opponents' comments.

and i was hardly playing scared. but being shortstacked allows you to play tighter and better poker.
