Thread: Looking for a mentor

    Default Looking for a mentor

    Hi all

This is my first post on this website even though i have been playing poker for around two years now. Most of my career i have been playing live poker, with a reasonable success rate and an overall win on all time profit. About a year ago a very good friend of mine and a great poker player took me under his wing and improved my game tenfold. I have since moved away from my home country of Australia and the help of my friend. So i am now looking for someone new to learn from. One key thing i should mention is that im interested in improving my online play not my live play although i am aware that one will hopefully filter into the other. The biggest problem that i am facing at the moment is an inability to put funds into any online account because they wont give an international a credit account in canada. So what im looking for is a teacher and in the short term perhaps even a sponser, now please dont mistake this post as simply a means to swindle online credit. I am only interested in improving my game and i am willing to take help and only help. The last thing i would like to say is i am trully dedicated to being a great poker player, and to do that i need to learn from and play the best. So please, no first time hints, i know how to play the game, i understand the intricacies of betting, odds, position, play etc etc etc.........i want to learn from a player better than myself. so please if you are willing to teach, i am willing to learn.

    thanks for reading my post,
    Tom

Wish you good luck in your quest to success.
Don't have any advice to give you but i think you could find some online teachers through different sites or forums that could help you, but you need to take your wallet with you, cause none of them will offer it for free.

I dont participate in them my self, but if your having trouble getting funds for your OL poker site you can get started playing freerolls and go that route to build you a slow but sure BR and it wont cost you a dime.
Hope this helps you out. BTW. if you could, please post your on-screen user names and what OL poker sites you play at maybe we can hit up a cash game or two together.
    Cheers Mate

It depends on what type of game you are referring to? ie. cashgame FR, 6-MaxNL, NLHE Tournament play,.. NLHE STT (Sng's), etc. etc.
If you're presently residing in Canada, you'll be able to deposit with 'VisaGiftCard' or 'MasterCardGiftCard' (most sites take both of them, but inquire with support prior to depositing). Cards come in denominations of $25, $50, & $100. It is super easy to use these!!!

I could possibly steer you in some directions with online play or perhaps would consider sweating some HandHistories. As I said,.. it depends on what you play. My preference is for MTT NLHE play but also have a fair bit of experience in SNG play.

    see ya,

    Thanks for the reply

My preference at this point is to improve my MTT NLHE play as i have had a little bit of sucess with the SNG option. Sweatin some hand histories would be sweet and i'll definatly look into a visa gift card. Thanks again for the replys

Probably play some freerolls to get more hands in at nl. From here, try the sit n gos again and a few mtts. You can also play low limit nl tables to play as many nl hands as possible.
When at the tables, play for the love of the game and show respect for your opponents.
