Exclamation Types of Player part 1

    Hi All,

    LAG

    Loose Aggressive (LAG)

A LAG player can make a TP player weep, There crazy ways can make any poker game interesting, and watch those variance percentages go up and down few percent very quickly.

LAG’s tend to win a lot of antes and blinds, and steel a lot of hands on the river with an over river EV bet ( Watch Out for it )

Now a LAG inability to control their desire to gamble is there weakness and usually there undoing, over a period of time they lose a hell of a lot more than they win.

If you correctly identify a LAG at your table it’s better to have them sat on your right, so if you “Note” one make sure you look around until you can sit in the correct position, this may mean going out of the room until you can re-sit down.

Which is not a bad thing because I am going to guess by the time you have identified a LAG you have lost money to them so a sit out and watch the room with a nice cup of tea will do you some good.

If you are going to teach the LAG a lesson, you have to be prepared to call him down with your hands, which also may have to be revised down from Sklansky group one and two hands, in position.

The favourite weapon is the Check Raise , you will find the LAG doubling there bets as the hand progress’s if you have the monster hand, all you have to do is call, then watching out for the river over bet, simple put them ALLIN , you will also hear the term “sort buy-in” LAG tend to be "SBI" and you usually get 2 or 3 hunting the same room, so there can be collusion issues as well. ( did that dick head really say his hand in the chat channel )

    Sklansky Group 1 AA,KK,QQ,JJ,AKs

Group 2 AKo, AQs, AJs, TT,

Next time I will do the Nemesis of the LAG The TAG

Till Next time, it's been fun

    Default It's poker TV fault

Why do LAG players play LAG? Very serious question, I can understand it in a pot limit live cash game, but No Limit, it's very stupid.

I am sure it some thing to do with poker den's high stakes poker game, you see idiots like that Neil Channing bet out on crud, winning money, and then Jessy May telling us all, how good a cash player Neil is and how much he has won.

I think the poker TV has a lot to answer for.

It made Doyle Brunson a lot of money. Poker shows on TV are there to entertain, so we shouldn't take them too seriously!

Nice post, Gypsy! Being familiar with different types of players is very helpful to any poker player. It helps you decide how to best play your cards against other players to win.

Most players aren't capable of playing well enough to be winning players with LAG style,.. however there are many elite players who do very well with it.

Generally speaking, LAG style of play is often best left to those who can handle it. Personally I switch it around (as I'm sure many do). Most often TAG but all depends on the table and what image I might want to put out for whatever reason.

**knowing the LAG will often be raising and 3-betting light, we can reraise LAGs when we have position on them and make them pay to play the hand. LAG's generally don't like playing big pots but prefer to steal many smaller ones.
BUT.. keep in mind, you don't want to play into the LAG's style (especially if he's good at it). Don't play LAG vs. a LAG.

Lag Tag EV or any other initals are meaningless IF you do NOT get your cards on the board. You got to check the players and value your cards every time one is turned up on the board.

Sorry but i must disagree with your statement. If you can see your opponent is LAG and is in a high percentage of the flops with rag hands just to see if they can improve post-flop, thats when you can exploit there weakness and begin to get them to bet in to the pot and fall into a trap.

Actually poker is not just about what cards you have, you need to be playing position and people a lot of the time.

As far as TAG players, if you consider you a TAG player and have isolated a fellow TAG then loosen up and your range of playable hands increases. The TAG will most likely play top 10 hands and will fold more often when forced to call a huge raise if they dont improve post-flop. Poker is a game of strategy, position, pot odds.

Very nice post and some good comments as well. I agree with the loosen up against other TAGs...You are folding and there are two others fold, fold, folding the night away, so if you get in position, raise them and see if you can LAG the blinds from them...
