Thread: Is this a rookie mistake?

  1. #1

Question Is this a rookie mistake?

I was told that it was a rookie mistake to call. I'm not sure why, can someone explain please? I have a pair of 9's, an inside straight draw AND a flush draw. Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

He bet 4k preflop then 6k after the flop then the 8.2k after the turn. In previous hands he was playing aggressive and making big bets in the hope others would fold, he was the chip leader until I came to the room. (Most of my chips came from him) Not sure what else you need to know. I am actually a rookie, I just didn't think it was a rookie call. The way I saw it, there were 10 hearts left, 2 9's, 3 Q's and 4 10's in the deck, that's 19 cards from a deck of 42 that would help me. Maybe that is bad, I don't know.

    Thanks for your help.

While I know in the old days of UB that the 1K/2K play chip tables had better play than that of the lower micro cash ring games, I have to agree with gnk2727's rules 1, 2 and 3. But, you are getting 3:1 to call here. If you believe that you will have the nutz and your opp will pay you off on the river IF you hit, then call.
    Really?

I'm no expert but I would call that under right circumstances. If you don't have the luck to hit the possiblities you would probably lose to a higher pair. So, there are other things to consider in this hand.

Emm, last time i check every card deck have only 13 hearts, you got 4 already there so only 9 left not 10.

Taking that apart, you need to pay 8,200 in a pot of 28,500, 3/1 for your chips, this was not a tourney, was a ring game, if you lost your chips dont get out of the game because can buy more chips, also you have 117,000 chips, 8,200 dont hurt you at all.

You got the odds to call, with all that your hand is not that bad, even you got pretty good chance of wining, because any heart give you a flush, any 10 give you a straight, the 10 of hearts give you a straight flush, any 9 give you trips, any Q give you 2 pairs. So you have 9 hearts, 3 tens (the other 10 its already in the hearts), 2 nines, 3 Queens

17 outs, about 68% odds to make your hand, but wich one of those hands going to win?

if the guy only have a pair in the turn you got all your chances, but if he have KK making trips, JJ making trips, KJ making 2 pairs, 10-Q making straight or another hands, your chances go down. But you said the guy was agressive and can have anything, and you have the odds to call, the odds to make your hand, and the stack to call, so CALL.

And ... if all the above fail... still you going to have 108,000 chips, and its play money chips so who cares LOL

You going to post the ending of this?, i bet you hit the flush, but the straight flush also be cool to see LOL

That's what I thought, at least I had a lot more chips and they're only PLAY CHIPS. In the end I caught a ten of diamonds so I had the straight and won, I went all in and he called, which ironically I thought WAS a rookie mistake considering he only had a pair of K's with a 6 kicker. Sorry I don't have the pic for it though.

you are a bit high in your projection. there's only the river to come. i think its more like 34 percent.

    Default good odds

According to an odds calculator, you have an overall 28% of winning the hand, off course it's not a closed deal because the river is around the corner. So in my opinion you should have check the next round and see what your opponents do, and then think it thru.

Pazma u did't have 9 hearts left to help you because he could easily have AK of hearts, and then u would be a BIG underdog...
But it was not a bad call. U needed the 10 for the str8 flush so that;s good enough to make the call.... 4 me
