If you're starting off by playing micro-stakes ring games, pretty much any site or network where the games actually run is fine. There are always poor and mediocre players who will give you money if you learn to let them - without giving too much back of course.
As for freerolls, I'm not a big fan of playing the big ones that have hundreds or even thousands of players. If you work on your game a bit, you can make a good deal more per hour playing small buyins. Since the fields have quite a bit of dead money, you don't have to be particularly good to make money overall, just somewhat better than the average player in these tournaments, which isn't too hard.

IMO, i think that there is no particular place to start playing online. Most of the rooms will offer you some FR to practice your game.
Let's say that the PS and FTP FR are the worst of all IMO.
PS FR will allow you to earn a sit (No comment). And Tilt one's seems to always fill in a minute. If you're lucky enough to join the game, then you'll probably suffer a bad beat as most of the players in thoses don't really care about the game.
I think that the best place to start poker is where you feel serene.

Good point by wucking furries. By playing in freerolls, you will learn to be patient and and get use to playing online if you never played there before or exclusively live. I would not reccommend anyone to start playing ring games until they are comfortable with the site they are playing at. Also, do not use play money games as practice to prepare you for playing ring games or mtts either.
When at the tables, play for the love of the game and show respect for your opponents.

I don,t think which site is the question or the answer. Its what game do you wish to start playing. I would suggest playing small MTT buy-ins. I would stay away from the ring games at first. Also the bigger sites have low Buy-ins for S & G,s to give you the final stage of tournaments experience.

imo, i think the best to start with are sit and go's. i also started with sit and go's ($3 or lower, depends on the site you are playing) and i made a nice bankroll.
at the begining you usually make some wrong moves (call to often with flush draw and bad pot odds and so on) .. and the advantage is, that you then only loose the amount the sit and go costed. if you start with no limit hold'em and you go for a flush draw, you could loose all your money ..
if you also wanna start with sit and go's you should choose a site which offers "cheap" sit and go's (buy-in: $3+0.30 or $5+0.5 instead of $5+1) .. this would safe you a lot of money if you play many sit and go's. (my favourites are pokerstars.com (many, many sng's) and raisingcards.com (almost new page, low traffic, but many bad players) .. i didnt try any other sites yet .. (only knew that sngs on partypoker have $5+1 buyin ..)

Now Stars is offering a 1 cent Texas hold 'em NL mtt. I don't think Tilt can beat that one. lol
I think I'd have to beat myself with a stick to play that one... eek!!!Brad Booth - > "Like a fight... it's not how you start, it's how you finish"

Yes, they're not exactly a tournament where poker skills have a chance to shine, in all fairness.

I recommend looking at what rakeback deals you can get, for instance pokerstars offer no rakeback so you are loosing out on free money.
