Default Mu suckout and a question -- what is UTG??

So I had a guy screaming at me about raising with A8 under the gun.

I thought UTG was the first position to have a chance to act on a hand?

Here is the hand history of the play. Obviously he was upset because I rivered the I was chasing for the nut flush. However, I thought I was in early position not under the gun. I thought UTG was the first position to act, not the first player to give action. Any help appreciated.

And I probably should not have called the first re-raise and I figured I was behind, BUT this guy was playing pretty aggressive (about 30% of the hands) and was re-raising my pre-flop raises about 50% of the time. Then the flop hits and he bets less than half the pot so I called. Why I called the turn? NO IDEA! Maybe a leak. Boy was he steaming when the river hit!

Yeah UTG is the player to the left of the big blind. The first player to call raise or fold.

When a player makes a move (raises) UTG it is considered a strong hand because obviously it is not the preferred position so playing by the "standard" rules you should have been stronger than A8, but in my opinion he didn't raise enough to be sure of your hand. His raise was to make the pot bigger, while keeping you in the hand. And he did so throughout the hand. On the flop he stared at two hearts and still bet only 450 into a 900 pot. If he wanted to protect his A's he would have gotten you out of the hand right then.

He was angry at his poor decisions (if he realized he made them) and your loosish calling UTG.

Yeah he tilted real bad when I told him he got greedy trying to get all my chips and that he should have bet bigger on the flop and I would have gone away.

See my post in MTT tournies and how tight I play. I try to loosen up a little, pick a bad time -- my opponent has AA -- and then hit the 9-outer on the river for a big double up. go figure. LOL

Yea stix is right. The preflop play could be called into question but his post flop play was asking to lose. 9 times out of 10 you can't bet someone out of a hand by betting what they already have invested into the pot. It shows no strenth at all and begs for the call. His turn bet was even worse, bets 500 on what is not about a 2000 pot and only left himself/herself with 180. You already called 900 the only shot they had to get a fold was to go all-in for 680 and hope that you were done chasing. Even then it was still not a huge bet but if someone is all-in you have to give them some credit for a hand. Oh well it worked out for you, hope you called them an idiot as they finished misplaying hands and donking out. Got to love it when newbies play bad and lose and complain about it.

Nothing to add, the 2 answers given are 100% right. The other dude should have considered you were on a flush draw with the check call on the flop and pushed on the turn.
