Question Why are odds calulators so expensive ?

While I am still learning the ins and outs of poker, there would be times where it would be nice to actually know the odds (instead of my poor estimation of the odds). Yet, many odds calculators are no less than $60, and often more. But then, there are sophisticated tracking software like PT3 and HEM that are in the same price range. What is going on here ? I mean, they are only odds caculators - they do not even approach the functionality of the tracking software - but the price is roughly the same. Why is that ?

P.S. I checked out this forum's Pokerbility link; it is $99.95, and has an 888 Network poker room for a "free" version. I am not able to go onto any 888 room because of US laws.

It depends what you want out of a calculator, I programmed this one just to prove to myself i could more than anything. I rarely use it.

    Screen shots

    Insert number of outs

    Insert pot size

The latest version I did is more accurate it uses proper calculation rather than estimation and is good to 2 decimal places.

I suppose all I wanted would be to put in the starting hand and the flop, and get the odds. I suppose I could dig in and make my own, I know some things about programming.... it seems that the odds calculators available are poor value, compared to the cost of other kinds of poker software that is far more useful. I am still learning how to count outs and all of that, so I had hoped to use the tool to confirm that I am able to account for everything....

Poker odds calculators are usually free to download. I know many sites that have their own and won't make here any advertisment about it. Let's say that pokerstove is a good one for cheap.
If you're talking about trackers, that's not the same thing as it will cost some $, or if you find some good links, it will cost you a deposit on a room and some bonuses to clear to have it for free.
Another way to get one free, is to download it through some P2P programs, but sssscchhh, that's not legal.

I've never heard of any odds calculator costing anything at all??? There are TONS of free ones available online. I think maybe you're getting an ICM calc. mixed up with this?
Here's a great free odds calculator that works for all games... not just NLHE.

Default think OP means a realtime odds calc

    hi

thanks for the link - there is a similar one on one of my sites badbeatornot.com -

    poker odds calculator

but I think the OP was looking for a realtime in game odds calculator - we have free poker odds clac offers for two on badbeatornot.com

titancalc - free with Titan signup on 1st deposit (+ $20 free + 150% up to $500 bonus)

pokerbility - free with LuckyAce signup (+ 100% bonus)

unfortuanately these are non US poker sites so no joy for our US members

    cheers scrawnybob

You might want to try just playing around with a simple one for awhile (just punch in a bunch of different hand comparisons.... to see how certain hands stack up against one another). Try that one that Poker Orifice put in up above.

There are a bunch of situations that players will learn to just know the odds after awhile (ie. simpler ones like a bigger pr. vs. a smaller pair is roughly 80%/20% (probably closer to 83/17).. .a pr. vs. two over cards is considered a coinflip (but is approx. 55/45 or somewhere in that vicinity). A bunch of others that you'll see coming up regularly on the tables (ie. an overcard and undercard vs. two middle cards.. such as AT vs KJ, or K9 vs QT, a dominated hand situation >> ie. AK vs AJ.. ~ 73/27) and lots of others.. but again some situations that you will see quite frequently. By playing around with a free odds calculator you'll gain a better idea of how hands stack up against one another.

    hope that helps ya
