So imagine 9 players going all in in a freeroll. I saw it 2 days ago. I don't think that all of them watched their pocket cards before....
they do it because its just a freeroll plus the fact of going through 1500 donks to me i just play the freerolls for fun and to maybe get a little bit better. I havent played carbon for a year now and i see so much changes! the 50k freeroll new tournament, i really like. carbons doing quite a good job
How did this thread automatically get onto the subject of freerolls? Idiots betting into dry sidepots do so in higher buyins. I had this happen the other day... just f'n terrible players out there.

Ok so I want to understand this better.
Three-way pot at least, one player all-in, and side pot between two other players have little or no money in it.
I understand the reason for not betting is, 1) no odds for the bet since side pot is small or empty, and 2) better chance of two people putting out short stack than one.
Here is my question. If you hit your hand, and are fairly certain you are going to take out the short stack, why wouldn't you bet to get heads-up in a very favorable position? In the end, you are playing to win and there are chips there for the taking. I am not talking a stone cold bluff or even a semi-bluff, I am talking a genuine made hand.
Also, if betting into the dry pot is stupid, what is calling it? That has to be even worse unless you also already have a made hand.
Thanks for insight always trying to learn.
SIDE NOTE: What irks me way more is when you have three or more in a Double or Nothing with the short stack and someone fires post flop. Now that to be is the height of IDIOTICY since 5th and 1st pays the same and there is exactly no difference. So ganging up here makes 100% sense to me.
i think you bet to protect your hand. you have QQ and the board is all low cards, with 2 to a suit. why let the other guy draw for free to his A or his flush? you have to be there ... you can't worry about the other guy. if your hand is strong, you bet. if your hand is weaker and you want ato check it down, fine.
If I have a made hand and am confident I have the allin player beat, I definitely fire into a dry pot. Otherwise, I check it down.
The total idiots who bluff with someone all in and then triple up the short-stack drive me crazy. Especially when, had the 3rd person not been pushed out of the pot, the ss would be gone. I have no idea what they are thinking or why they would want to do that.
OH wait, they don't think.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Firing into a 'Dry-Pot' in my opinion, is situational.
If I flopped the 'Absolute Nuts', it would be advantageous to slowplay in the hope of building a larger sidepot.
If I missed the board entirely, obviously I would not bet into a sidepot .
Also, I take into account the size of the 'Live Pot' and decide (based on my holecards, board texture, opponent etc) whether it is in my best interest to call a side-pot bet.
These are just a few things I personally take into account when deciding whether to continue.
There will always be players who will bet into a dry-pot with marginal or bluffing hands. Getting involved like I mentioned, is situational. More often than not, it is prudent to release your hand and wait for a better opportunity.
As mentioned in many poker articles, successful poker players are players that make more good decisions than the unsuccessful players who make more bad decisions.
Let these players who fire into dry-pots continue to do so, sooner or later they will run into your monster hand.

To bluff at a dry side pot doesn't make much sense. The aim of a tournament is to be the last man standing so why help a player stay in. But if you have a hand then betting is fine in my opinion. I see it as building some insurance against the all in player hitting.
Last night in the PKR game I got some stick I assume it was because I bet into a dry side pot. I did it two hands in a row. First I hit 2 pairs on the flop and made a small bet to try and encourage the other player in the hand to call and build a decent side pot. He folded, unfortunately the all in hit a flush and took the pot. The other player in the hand made comment, but if he could have beaten my 2 pair he was unwise to fold because I gave him perfect odds to call.
The next hand I again called an all in I had low suited connectors and it was my bb I only had to put an extra 2 x bb to see the flop. The same player who criticised the previous hand also called. I hit middle pair and a flush draw, and checked the other player checked, the turn didn't help and we both checked again. The river gave me 2 pair and I bet out again, no doubt much to the disgust of the other player who again folded. I only made a small bet as I wanted a call. This time I took down the pot and took out the all in.
So as said above betting into a dry side pot is all dependant on the situation. To Mr Moany in the PKR game I will do it again, and again so if you don't like it fold.![]()
