Default Learn to fold AK preflop

Its a very costly lesson most beginners make too often. Calling off or reraising with AK when the action in front of you says fold. Hell, even veterans make the mistakea as I did last night. Had a raise, then an all-in that would have set me all-in when I was SB with AKo. I hesitated for a second, but called. It was QQ vs. AK vs. AK.

Don't be afraid to fold AK if you are deep stacked. Yes, tripling up is nice. Getting eliminated - not so nice.

On cash tables AKs or AKo works for me fine lately. But when I have the starting hand in the tourneys and I am a step to cash prizes then it almost always loses.

I've already seen a couple of people in our FT game fall victim for the ultimate drawing hand. Falling in love so early in a hand can be deadly

Yep, I'm sure you are talking about me. This hand causes me lots of trouble. I'll try to remember this advise.

Honestly can't remember. But I believe I saw two players get re-raised all in preflop when they held AK and I believe both were eliminated or severely disadvantaged after that hand.

make no mistake - there are times when it is right to call with AK ... my situation was more of a deepstack hand where i risked too many chips with the drawing hand.

AK, especially AK suited is hard to fold, but it is ONLY the best preflop drawing hand. I have folded it and I have called with it.

From what I've seen in freerolls and small buyins, some players can't fold ANY ace, nevermind AK.

    $10 buyin. i have $3,000 left. bb is 250. ante is $25. sb $125.

i raise the pot preflop with KK to 1225.

    bb calls.

    flop comes 8s 8c 5s

he checks. i bet my remaininig $1700 or so. he almost instacalls with Ac 2c. No pair, backdoor flush draw.

he had me covered by about 1000. would have left himself crippled. rivers an ace and i'm going home.
