Shine on you crazy diamond...
hi
no worries - there are some other poker terms etc in our poker terms section
but to answer your question ...
TAG = Tight Aggressive
LAG = Loose Agressive
ABC = ABC player / plays "by the book" type player
you might also find this article helpful - types of poker players
basically bad players will tend to be either calling stations or LAG players
then you get the next level of players who have read some strategy guides / forums etc and are marginal players or winning players at lower stakes playing pretty solid TAG tight aggressive poker using a fairly ABC "text book" approach to the game
in other words they play by the book and are fairly sucessful in terms of winning BUT
playing totally ABC poker makes them increasingly easy to read and they can be in danger of becoming total rocks (a table of very tight players is known as a "rock garden")
to be continued
cheers scrawnybob

1 thing that hasnt been mentioned is the time that you play.
if u play at midnight uk you are up against americans who are playing at between 4pm and 7pm and if they are playing at this time during the week will tend to be grinders and whereas 5 years ago players were grinding at $1/$2
now there are players grinding at $0.05/0.10 as they only have a roll to suit that level.
the days of the kid coming home from a nite out and putting $200 on an account and being able to jump through the levels are virtually gone, mainly through better understanding of bankroll management and players are more inclined to read books on the game.
1 of the worst things that happened was chris 'jesus' ferguson grinding nothing to $10k.
because it meant a lot of people thought hey that sounds good im going to try it.
so for a short while u had better players having a go at doing the same.
I play mainly freerolls for a few reasons
1 not got the money to load onto sites.
2 its more challenging because of the its only a freeroll it dont matter if i play like a muppet players
3 im doing allrite at it i've made over $1k just from freeroll cashes this year.if i include the value of tourneybuyins/ tickets i've won and backgammon its over $1600.
4 it dont take that long i play the games that start at 6pm/7pm/8pm uk.
5 it keeps my brain active and has paid for me new comp.
6 i made min deposit on 1 site i then won enough to make a withdrawl from that site i then used that to make min deposit on other sites and did the same again.
7 i am going to pay my way to the wsop with the money i have won from freerolls.
and heres the best part i only came 3rd in our forums leaderboard
