Default When do you raise the stakes....@ bodog

    Hello 4kingpoker customers!!!

I have been playing poker for almost 7 years now and have own my fair share. I can honestly say I have made more than I have lost, but I was wondering when everyone knows it is time to raise the stakes. I have played about 5 times in tournaments that are over 100 bucks. I played fairly well, but was unable to cash in either of the 5 mainly because you get donked out ( which hurts worse than your women cheating on you I would think) which pisses me off and makes me shy away from playing big money tournaments. My bankroll on the other hand shows that I can play in tournaments that are at decent prices and finish in the money. I was wondering what everyone thought is the best stakes to play at in tournies. Especially those that play on bodog. It seems like their isn't an equal amount of costs in their tournaments. They have beginning tournies, 10 dollar ones and then bam 30 buy in and then 50.... it seems like their isn't a middle ground. I like to think I am a really good poker player and honestly I think everyone should think that way or they won't play as good as they are capable of. Anyone with any insight would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    B

Default always based on your bankroll

    hi

IMHO if you want to make serious progress I would always base any moves up on your bankroll

if you havent got the bankroll then dont move up

for MTT's you should be looking at an absolute minimum of 40x your buy-in as a bankroll
I'd really be tempted to go for 50x

this would mean for playing $10 MTT's you need to have $400+ bankroll

if your playing decent sized fields and you can place a few times near the top of the money then this may build to be enough to move up again but make sure you have the bankroll required for the move up eg. $1200+ for moving to $30 not just a bit of profit over $400

this may help but its geared a bit more towards SNG's & cash game poker but gives you the idea Bankroll management

some may feel 40x is too much if your doing 45 seat MTT's and not enough if your entering the big field games - the principle is the important thing and being realistic that you are not going to win MTT's at the same rate as say SNG's

hope thats a help & good luck

    cheers scrawnybob

I had that same problem when there are games for $1 and $5 but nothing in between.
I'd get my bankroll to 8,9 10,12 bucks. and then play a five buck game, then be back down to 3 to 6 bucks.

I then got to 50 bucks, and played the 5 buck game, and i lost the first 3 five buck games and rattled off 7 wins in a row.

What matters is you have to be able to lose the $100 at least 20 times. So I would have to have a bankroll of $2000 before I was hitting the $100 table. I would not bring $100 to a ring game unless I had $2000. Otherwise, for me, I play scared. And playing scared makes me fold hands that have a chance of winning. I would risk 2 to 4 percent of my bankroll at a table.

Now multi table big tourneys, I would only risk 1-2 percent of my bankroll, so if i was gonna enter a $100 I'd want $5000 to $10,000 sitting in my bankroll before I was totally comfortable that I wasn't in over my head.

So I look at my bankroll. If I have $400 I tell myself I can enter any $4 tourney.
