Thread: Starting up a bankroll

    Default Starting up a bankroll

Alright so I got my friend to transfer me five dollars on full tilt because I wanted to start up a bankroll. I am willing to take the time to build it up and I feel like I am better then the players at microstakes. I didnt want to pput in a lot of money because I am not willing to lose a lot.
I was just wondering what type of stakes I am bankrolled to play with this bankroll, if any.
Also I would be fine with grinding out the $0.25 sitn'go's but they also have a high ($0.05) rake on them which made me wonder if I would even be very profitable doing this.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

yeah, go grind. BRM is all about protecting your BR. You got $5. BRM says dont spend more than 3-5% a day. well, with $5 that is tuff. but can be done. .25 sngs are good for you. go study. go play one a day. become better. I would not advise cash games. Look patience is a key, and $5 at cash is not patience. playing .25 a day is. If u got poker chops u should make some money. gl

I concur with what was said above. If you are looking to play more, I would suggest the Carbon Freerolls and the Carbon 3Step program. Both are nice ways to build a bankroll. Also, if you have 7 days to play, a small deposit on Carbon qualifies you for 7 nice payout freerolls with only around 300 players. I managed to cash in 4 of the 7 for a little over $100 which got me rolling.

    Good luck at the tables.

Besides the sng's there are occasionally some real cheap tournies also and not all of them are like the million man march, usually the free rolls are real crowded though

I agree with ND about the Carbon Fun Steps.. You can play them at Aced also. That's how I started my bankroll at Carbon. I've never deposited anything there and my bankroll is almost $400 right now! I really should take some out and pay on my electric bill.. lol.

When 4king started their league games at Aced last season, I had to start over on that skin. Luckily, I had a friend give me a bit of a head start transfer, but then I started on the Fun Steps there also. That's when I realized that they have changed their structure a bit. It used to be that you would have to come in 1st to get the coupon for the next table. Now, the top 3 get a coupon to Table 2. At Table 2, the top 2 get a coupon to table 3 and 3rd place gets another Table 2 coupon.

If you win the 3rd table you get $1. Whoo Hoo! With playing those Fun Steps and winning one 1st place so far this season at the league game, my bankroll at Aced is almost $50 already! I'm happy with it. I know everyone hears it all the time, but usually the key to winning at those fun steps is Patience. I wait for a good hand and then play it like I mean it...

    Good Luck.

I also got a big BR at carbon from FR. Won $10 finishing 2nd in their $50 FR. Got it up to a grand, never took any out, lost it all. Over confidence and impatience don't mix with poker very well. Hopefully I learned my lesson, been tryin to build another big BR from freerolls on all the sites. Haven't had that success yet. If you get it going, don't confuse a lucky run with poker skill. Not saying you don't have skill, but one pitfall with winning a lot early and building a big BR is you start playin over your head and when the BR drops, its tough not to chase what you lost, next thing you know you're way down and it's tough to play a lot lower buyins after you been playin in big ones. It's tough building from $5, but it can be done, good luck.

    Default what to play

i think it really depends on your mindset
.if you think your better then the miccro players go find out. if you really want to build a bankroll and dont want much risk just stay with the forum games till you have wnough to play a decent one. if you are just learning try the freerolls lots of bankrolls have been started there.point is do you wnat to do it in 30 days or 30 years.next is how big of a bank roll do you want to have? what level do you want to achive?just be carefull donks are at all levels let no one kid you of that

If you feel you're better than the microstakes players (btw... how do you assume this? have you played alot of online poker before??), then why not make a deposit that is at least large enough to even be able to be bankrolled for the micro limits?
When I first deposited I put down $175 (then actually fluked a 2nd place in $1 MTT my very first game for $114). With bankroll then over $300, a couple of weeks didn't go by without realizing I still didn't have enough in my bankroll so I went & deposited another $150 into the same account (I wanted to be comfortably rolled for the levels I was playing at & didn't really want to be playing the $1 sngs).
What I'm saying is >>> if you're half decent &/or have ambition, etc. then I think you'll look back & believe you were wasting your time by not making a deposit.
I'm not one to say that you can't build up a bankroll from freerolls or small deposits (I actually have a few accounts where I've done that) but personally if I were you I'd just go find a method to make a deposit & get playing some poker (& would prob start off with the $2 sng's). Find a friend with a Fulltilt account & buy some FT $'s off of them if you can't find a method to deposit.
    GL on the tables!
