Don't get caught up in the retarded chat box. There is no way that it's +EV.
Watching chat box can reveal a lot, opponent chatting is revealing something right off the bat.
You can take their chat and use it to your advantage.

    8. Mood, chasing loses & taking a break ... Dont even think about playing poker if you not really in the mood. Dont play if your thinking more about your money than the cards in front of you. Take a break if your not playing well. Dont try to squeeze in a session - if your thinking about work / got to walk the dog / make an appointment - leave the cards for another time - you've probably just saved a load of your bankroll - just as good as a win.
A player distracted from the game is +EV

    12. Keep Focussed ... Boredom is always a problem online and this leads to playing too many hands and not watching hands that your not involved in. Watch every hand, make notes and try to pick up other players weak points and betting patterns. By focussing on the game you will be more involved even when you haven't got money in the pot which will win you more money.
Or, keep them unfocused by bringing up what they were ranting about.

    my favorite line
is telling people they are playing over their bankroll in a freeroll tournament or
telling them they are the best

This is too funny. I'll have to remember that first part. And great responses there Assist!

People have many reasons for talking trash at the table. Some like to boost their ego. Some are trying to get you off of your game and put you on Tilt. Some are trying to change the play at the table. If it bothers you, he probably is succeeding at what he was trying to accomplish.

Straight trash talk would not be reson enough (my opinion) to report chat. Offensive language, racial slurs, personal attacks would be reason enough to report. But, I don't view commentary on a player's game a personal attact.
    Really?

I love that comment Assistance about the free roll, rofl too freaking much.....but yeah someone crying about your play is almost a given in online poker, i will either ignore or try to send em all the way over the edge but if goes beyond the actual card game into more personal things i would never report the person because i have never told on someone since probably the 2nd grade and won't start now, but i will put them on ignore if i can or close the chat if its really offensive, but i don't think i would get that offended even online

    Default chat talkin

Since I really have no idea what I'm doing. Sometimes I'll tell exactly what in my hand (sometimes good, sometimes bad) so people don't know what to think.
What do you think. especially when drinking lol

It's an interesting way to keep people guessing, since no one would know if you are actually telling the truth...they would probably ignore it after a while, since it would interfere too much with the natural flow of the game...

Prob not a good idea to reveal every hand since someone may just take advantage...

Can you tell me when you get pockets and I will probably fold

Thanks for the comments Washer, it's really funny to me how serious some people take playing virtual cards and for the tiny limits i play at and i would say most of the average public plays at, and it shows in the chat box. My God, don't you dare play your cards how you want to. How dare i try to use all 5 of the community cards, without having some people either call me names or others want to scold me and give me coaching lessons right there at the table, lol. The worst thing is after getting the coaching the coach did the same exact thing he was scolding me about. Hell i even finished like 4th today but damn it i had no right to be that lucky and may all the poker Gods and anything having to do with poker strike me down for daring to play my cards in an different style then ABC by the book poker. With all the people getting called names or scolded in the chat boxes of games you would think the powers that be would have changed the rules of hold'em poker to be only the 2 cards you are dealt and the flop. Too funny, i tell ya

yeah...scrap the books...get out there and play the tables...

i think cards are a pretty innate skill...people who spend hours reading and quoting books are often searching for something they need to find in themselves...of course it depends if you've grown up in a card-playing family or not, i, for one, have never read a poker book in my life and never intend to...i did grow up in a card-playing family tho...and via my grandparents, so it could be nature or nurture or both...

main thing is to enjoy it and not take it all too seriously...and, of course, one meets fabulous people like 4K-ers...so what could be better
