Spent about 6 hours playing poker at the new poker room at Delaware Park racetrack, just south of Wilimington. Clean, smoke-free and full of fish at 1-2 NL. Plus, 1-2 has a max buy-in of $300, which I didn't know until it was too late.
Went down with $200 and quickly lost it. AQ flopped top two pair. Bet $50 on the flop and $100 on the turn, leaving me with about $48. I should have just shoved the turn, maybe he would have folded. Anyway, flop was AQ8 rainbow. Turn was a 9. River was a T and he had AJ. Not sure what else to do here. I had raised to $20 preflop and had 2 callers, so pot was about $60 preflop.
Was pissed off, took a walk to hit the ATM and get another $200. Asked the concierge person when I went back if I could get the same table to win back my money ... She laughed and we went to the table. My seat was still open, so I jumped right back in. Picked off a $45 river bluff from the above donkey to win about $150 or so with KQo with just top pair.
A little later, the table was broken - it was normally a $5-$10 table and they had players that wanted to play that level. Seemed douchey, but we all got seats at other tables immediately. Again, same lady from before, I laughingly said I wanted to follow the guy with the Hawaiian shirt and she took me to that table. A little bit later I had A3
. Now normally, I'd drop this hand, but Mr. Hawaiian shirt raised to $20 and i was in the big blind. I decided I was ahead of his range (he raised almost every hand) and I called. Flop came AQ3 one spade. Turn was a 9 of spades. River was a 4 of spades.
I bet $20. He min-raised me to $40. I hit him up for another $80. He says, 'You hit that flush? I have a straight.' And calls. Ships me a major pot, more than $250. Sweet revenge. He's lucky he didn't C-Bet the flop and turn. He'd have lost a hell of a lot more.
Some other big hands came when an aggressive/bad player refused to stop betting into people with his low/mid pocket pairs. I called him down a couple of times with KJ and took some pots.
One hand I wish I'd played better: Get dealt AK
in the SB. Player in MP makes a standard raise to $15 preflop. I grab eight $5 chips, shuffle them and think for a few seconds. I put 5 back and I just smooth call. Pot is 5-handed. Flop comes A J 9 and I check to the raiser, who bets. 3 of us call. Turn is a 4. No flush draws. I check again, raiser bets again, 3 callers. River was a T and I wasn't too happy about that. It gets checked around and raiser kind of glares at me like, 'what the hell does this guy have?' I show my AK and take down the pot.
Best play of the night: Get AA
. UTG raises to $10 and I make it $25. Get two callers, including original raiser. Flop comes J

. UTG bets $10, I pop it to $65. 3rd guy in makes it $365 to go, about 65 percent of my stack. I just got a sick feeling. I couldn't put him on a hand I could beat. Who raises $300 in a pot that only has $150 in it? UTG folded and it was to me. I look at my AA about 8 times. I go through all the scenarios. Would he do this with K
Q
? I didn't think so. I didn't think he'd do this with QQ or KK either. I had a tight image. He saw a couple of my hands at showdown. They were all big. Finally, I mucked face up. I said, 'I think you have JT.' and he turned up a J. Then another J. UTG said 'I had a J.' That really pissed me off. A one-outer. But I'm pretty sure everyone was impressed. Just not me.
Wound up running the second $200 up to more than $700, before cashing out at $670 for a $270 profit.
I highly recommend the room. Staff was very cordial and, like I said, it was a smoke-free room. PA casinos open up in less than 2 weeks. I'll probably go just because one is 15 minutes away as opposed to 45, but if I have a night, I'll drop the extra half hour to avoid the smoke.
