Playchip tourneys can be useful when people first start playing a certain type of poker. Afterall, why invest money in a type of poker you've never played before? It stands to reason that the bigger the playchip buy-in the better (and more realistic) the tournament will be. Usually the smaller the field the better, because when you get down to endgame everyone takes it seriously, even in a playchip tourney.

I can think of three playchip tourneys that were usefull to me. The first no-limit Texas Holdem mtt I ever won was a playchip tourney (72 people), and the three-handed play was top notch. I won a limit holdem sng early on; heads-up lasted forever, and it was a great education on the difference between limit and no limit (not to mention how poker sites work differently limit and no limit). The first Razz tourney I ever won was a large playchip buy-in mtt where the final table was brilliant.

Just don't get stuck playing with playchips...

No I don't. I doubt Phil Ivey would be a consistant winner in play money.
The only benefit I can think of for playing a play money table is to famiiarize yourself with the software if you're just starting out (or starting on a new site you haven't played on before). The play is so bad/unpredictable/senseless on the play money tables that it really doesn't translate well over to the real $ tables. So... I really don't think that one could make a judgement based on their performance on playchip tables as to whether or not they're ready to try their hand at real money tables.

Just start off real slow. Maybe play some freerolls (maybe not, lol).. play a bunch of 2nl (if you're intending on playing cash tables... in this case try reading a guide on beating the mircro limits... it'll serve you well).. OR try your hand at the lowest buyin SNG's (again, read up on playing SNG's... it'll make a HUGE difference in your results as there is a basic strategy to them that will make you a winning player in them & most beginners play them very poorly (ie. thinking they should try to play alot of hands & trying to win them all....quite often winning a bunch of chips at first & then quickly spewing them off afterwards and then going out in ~5th or 6th... &/or they keep limping once the blinds go up, & calling prefop raises instead of focusing on maintaining their stack so they have fold equity when they do raise/shove once the blinds are high).

GL on the real $ tables.. and forget about the play chip tables imo.

I 'm thinking that if anyone spent any length of time on the play tables that there are just too many bad habits and plays made that you will pick up and therefore start using without realizing, in other words, if you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas, does that make sense ? The previous rant does not apply to tking as she managed to get thru a year of that madness and came out ok the other end.

true true!! (same can be said about playing the super micros.. but as long as players make necessary adjustments it's still a far far better place to learn on).

I like the posts from jeffsbabe and the one from ND1991 and I really think when you consider what they propose, it will finally improve your game. I did a bit a mixture of the twos.

Play money I tried just a few times and for it never felt the same, as most players just went mad.

A very important thing for me was bank roll management as already mentined above. Just stick to it as an iron rule.

gl at the tables and cu soon at the felt

I agree with these. Play money players just don't care, because it's play money. Everything you learn, you may have to unlearn when you go to real money. But, it doesn't cost anything, so oh well. But I do tink it's a waste of time. Most of the time I have been on play money tables, people are just pushing with any 2 cards. Stupid waste of time. Peace.

    Default Playmoney?

I think you can learn the Gameplay, but many People play only for fun with that.
Its a good training not more.
Play Freerolls where you can real Money. I Think its better to Learn and to make mistakes
    like we all do.

Never give up, the next hand could be yours and dont be married to your Cards.
