Default Tournies vs. Cash games

Hiya, i'm a novice but starting to understand and appreciate a bunch of the feedback on here...guess that shows improvement! But... wondering if you have any advice on differing styles of play in tournies vs cash games? I'm doing fairly well in tournies but not so well in cash games, usually cos some massive stack goes in $30 on a $2 pot so i'm just haemoraging chips!

Any advice please? Differing styles of play etc...? Cheers
Jim

the first piece of advice that i got when i started playing in cash games was that you have realise that the structure in tournements plays a big part in the way you play. In tournements the blinds and antes are forever rising and will eventually eat away at ure stack if you sit back and do nothing. Whereas in cash games the blinds and antes are constant so you are not forced to make moves to stay alive etc etc etc.

So the first major difference i made to my cash game as opposed to my tournement game was not getting too worried bout protecting my blind and trying to steal blinds, because in cash games the blinds are usually so insignificant to the max you can buy in for.

i tried to stay away from cash games when i first started. there were too many things i didnt know. odds, which still confuse me, bluffing, people will catch on youre fresh meat and will pounce. not every one but the few who do pounce will leave you with nothing. dont be afraid to push if you have it but know when to fold too. id start with low buy in sit n gos. or low buy in tourneys. build your bank roll and gain some experience then go on to the money tables.

Default thanks

hi chaps.. thanks for these responses...with my limited experience i can say youre spot on!
Will be sticking with sit and go's and tournies. Its too easy to get impatient and over egg your hand - plus realised i'm underestimating how easy (even on 1/2cent tables) you can lose money! Thanks for the advice.Jim
