Proof That Everyone Goes Through The Same Patches!!
We have all experienced it, we're at a table and you look down at a nice hand and make a move with it only to find that someone else has a better hand, and this seems to go on for ages. Well you will be pleased to know that it happens to everyone, yes even the world's best player (you may not agree with me but I will argue that point til I'm blue in the face) Phil Ivey has to deal with it as well. I've just finished watching the WPT World Championship Final Table from Season 3 and everytime he made a move with a hand he ran into a slightly bigger hand!
N.B - you can see the whole final table on youtube!!
I've been watching the highlights of the final on challenge the last couple of days and I swear he just couldn't go wrong - I mean if I'd managed to battle through to the final table with the hands he was getting and his chip stack anyone could have won with his cards
low rags - he hits a straight on the flop and it just went on and on
I guess he had to get there but apparently his luck ran all the way through the tourney

Yeah I saw that, which is one of the reasons why I refuse to acknowledge him as a top player just yet. He could have played with the 'Rules to Bridge' card and it would have flopped quads lol.
I certainly think he got a great run of cards - low connectors which hit a hidden flop etc and hitting outs when needed
As much as I didn't like his table talk - it was effective - telling players his hand when he had it and using that for when he didn't
Very much the showman - and I have to respect that if he can do it again when he doesn't have the cards - but I too think the jury is out
Then again Jonny Chan as your mentor has got to help alot - and he must have seen something in him to be involved
I really dont think he did himself any favours the way the whole lawsuit thing has happened - but then that deal seemed iffy from the off - that seems like 6 of one half a dozen of the other - the other guy shouldnt have nagged and maybe it would have been different
I guessing that at the end of it all there wasn't a whole lot of trust going on with it all anyway - who is to know
Would have been nice to see a cleaner cut character either amateur or pro take the bracelet - but seeing some of the players in the final 3-4 tables it could have gone to worse players in personality and skill
can't remember the kid but there was a really precoucious 21ish yr old who was a total tw*t getting swearing penalties and behaving like a moron as if he was in Doyles league and age - when he was probably a sucessful internet player - but that certainly doesn't teach class or manners
do you know the kid I mean ?
Still great to dream of making it through the first day once in my life ;-)
cheers scrawnybob

I hear you, it is def on the list of things to do before I die.
The thing about Gold was he had this aura around him that seemed that he thought that they should just give him the bracelet and the final table was just a formality. I know the kid you mean I think. He has prob done really well online, has very little live experience and has seen the Mouth and decided to copy him lol.
After going 2 years with nice, down to earth guys in Hachem and Raymer winning then to get someone like Gold is a shame. But hey, he did it and fair play to him. If he can consitently cash and make final tables in the same way that Hachem and Raymer do then he will get my respect!
Actually I will respect him if he steps up to Mike Matasouw's challenge for a $12m heads up game vs Alan Cunningham, in which Mike would put up Alan's bankroll. If he accepts that then I will respect him, not for his poker but for having the balls to do it!!
